Monticello Scouts and Legion Members Place Flags on Veterans Graves

Dylan Beckwith Named Outstanding Member of the Monticello High School FCCLA Chapter for 2014-15

Members of the Monticello High School FCCLA Chapter held their annual awards program on May 11th. Dylan Beckwith was chosen as the Outstanding Member of the Year. Dylan was also recognized for serving as a FCCLA State Officer this year.
Each chapter member was recognized for their participation in the chapter. Those members who received special recognition for their efforts received a gold FCCLA pin, including Kuenzi Aeberhard, David Ruegsegger, Emily Koch, Dylan Beckwith, Logan Marty, Nick Blumer, Casey Schwartzlow and Kallista Baebler.

Braceros Performed in April 24 Orchesta Concert

Alfred Eiji Braceros, Belleville, performed in Cornell College’s annual spring orchestra concert.
The concert featured orchestral works from the 19th and early 20th centuries, including Gioachino Rossini’s “Overture to the Barber of Seville,” Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s “Danse Negre,” and Johann Strauss’ famous waltz “By the Beautiful Blue Danube.”

Green's Prairie Cemetery Memorial Day Program

A disturbing phone call in early April told of vandalism at the Green's Prairie Cemetery, just north of Postville. The caller related that one of the members of the Green's Prairie Cemetery Assn. had stopped at the cemetery for an early spring check.

Gap Church Board to Hold Fundraisers

The annual meeting of the Board of Directors of the Gap Church Museum Inc. and Cemetery Association was held recently. The board will hold three fundraisers to help cover the costs of repairs needed.

Greenwoods State Bank to Sponsor Shuttle to Green County Breakfast On the Farm

Greenwoods State Bank will be providing a bus to travel to the Green County Breakfast on the Farm on Saturday May 30, 2015. The bus will leave Monticello at 7:00 a.m., from the circle drive in front of the school (facing E Park Ave), and will return when all passengers are ready.
The Green County Breakfast will be located at W4358 Montgomery Road in Monroe, WI. There will be no charge to the riders and it will be first come, first serve. To make sure you get a spot on the bus, please come early. If you have any questions, please call (608) 882-6010.

New Glarus Fire Department 3rd Annual Golf Outing

The New Glarus Fire Department will be holding their 3rd Annual Golf Outing Fundraiser on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club.
The Golf Outing will begin with a 1:00 p.m. Tee Time. There will also be a 6:00 p.m. Auction and Dinner, featuring Mike’s Smoked Brisket. The price for the outing is $75 per person for non-members; $30 for members and $45 members needing a cart.

Edelweiss Cheese Authentic Wisconsin Opens in New Glarus

Downtown New Glarus has a new business that recently opened. Edelweiss Cheese Authentic Wisconsin is now open from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., each day, located in the New Glarus Hotel building on the first floor, with its frontage on 1st Street. The owners, Bruce and Kathleen Workman, tentatively plan on offering extended hours on special events weekends in New Glarus.

Saengerfest 2015 is Seeking Volunteers

On June 18th – 21st the Männerchor New Glarus with the assistance of Jodlerklub New Glarus and many others from New Glarus and Green County will be hosting the North American Swiss Singing Alliance (NASSA) triennial Saengerfest. The organizing committee for the event is asking for your help and is seeking volunteers.
