Village Of New Glarus Nomination Procedure For Running For Village Offices

Candidates for local office in the Village of New Glarus can begin circulating Nomination Papers on December 1, 2020. The Spring Election will have the Village President and three Trustee positions up for election. Incumbents whose terms end in 2021 are: Trustees: Michael Bell, Michael Ganshert and Peggy Kruse, as well as Village President, Roger Truttmann.

New Glarus Library Building Project

Although 2020 has been a year of unpredictable and unrelenting challenges, the New Glarus Public Library Board of Trustees continues to forge ahead with plans for a new library building.
At this time, the Board is determined to build in 2021, and is diligently looking at ways to maximize the building with the funds currently available. Plans continue to evolve, and we will share details as they are confirmed.

One home and one business will be chosen to win a prize basket from the Monticello Chamber of Commerce. Everyone may vote for businesses and chamber members will vote on residences.

Monticello Community Club Chicken BBQ

The Monticello Community Club will again brave the January cold and cook chicken at the Lake Montesian shelter. The date is January 31, 2021. All details are not available yet; however, chicken will be delivered to local shut ins.
Sign-up sheets will be in local businesses, and a phone number will be published in the next article for the convenience of sign up. Like before, all sales are by preordering. This is BBQ chicken only, not a full meal. More details and costs will be in the next article.

Sales of Jigsaw Puzzles to Help Children in Crisis

Anyone who likes to work on jigsaw puzzles can now put those talents toward a worthy cause. REACH-A-Child™, the Madison-based organization that provides children’s books to first responders, is offering a unique jigsaw puzzle in its latest fundraising effort.
This fundraiser celebrates (and supports) Wisconsin’s heroes while providing comfort to children in crisis. The puzzle depicts a firefighter reading to two young children. Firefighters, fire vehicles and other individuals round out the scene. The firefighters and equipment are from the Middleton Fire District.

Local Optometry School Student Awarded Scholarship

Ms. Larissa Brigham, a graduate of New Glarus High School, was recently awarded a scholarship from the Wisconsin Foundation for Vision Awareness (WFVA) and the Wisconsin Optometric Association (WOA) to be used in the pursuit of her doctorate degree in Optometry. This award is presented each year to a select few optometry students who are originally from Wisconsin and are student members of the Wisconsin and American Optometric Associations. Selection is based on academic performance and ability, character, leadership and interest in the profession of optometry.
