Applications Open Now Through January 15 for Dairy Processor Grants

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) invites Wisconsin dairy processors to apply for the next round of Dairy Processor Grants through January 15, 2021. The funding is intended to foster innovation, improve profitability, and sustain the long-term viability of Wisconsin’s dairy processing facilities. Grant recipients will be announced in February 2021.

Alliant Energy Offers Innovation Scholarships

Alliant Energy is seeking applications for their 2021 Innovation Scholarships as the company recognizes outstanding community leadership. Up to 25 students will receive a $1,000 scholarship to help them reach their academic goals.
Applicants for the annual scholarships will be asked to write an essay that identifies a problem in their community and presents an innovative solution using science, technology, engineering and/or math.

Hardwood Trees for Planting Spring 2021

Fall is almost over. It’s time to think spring. Think spring tree planting. The Green County Land & Water Conservation Department is offering 10 varieties of trees and three varieties of shrubs for landowners interested in planting trees next spring. The tree varieties are: Bur Oak, Red Oak, White Oak, Swamp White Oak, Sugar Maple, Black Walnut, American Plum, American Arborvitae, White Pine, and Norway Spruce. Shrubs available are: Redosier Dogwood, American Hazelnut, and Common Ninebark.

Deadline Approaching for Nominations for the Wildcat Wall of Fame

The Wildcat Wall of Fame Committee is now accepting nominations for induction for 2021. Nominees must meet one of three criteria:
1) A Belleville High School graduate (at least 10 years removed from graduation).
2) A School District of Belleville employee, administrator, school board member, coach, or advisor (with at least 10 years of service to the district).
3) A community member or volunteer with significant contributions to the school district.

Janesville Parker Hands Knights a Loss

The New Glarus Knights boys basketball team hosted Janesville Parker on Friday, December 4th, which was also the team's Senior Night. The halftime score was Janesville Parker 40, New Glarus 11. New Glarus scored 36 points to Parker's 35 in the second half, but the damage was done and the Knights were handed their first loss of the season. The final score was New Glarus 47, Janesville Parker 75.
Leading the Knights in scoring was Jack Parman, with 16 points. Carter Siegenthaler and AC Strok both scored 6 points and Dominic Tollakson scored 5 points.

New Glarus Girls Prevail Over Fort Atkinson

On Monday, November 30th, the Lady Knights hosted Fort Atkinson. Leading by 10 at the half, New Glarus went on to win the game, 69-54.
“It was great to get back out on the court Monday night vs our friends from Fort Atkinson,” said Coach Kevin Parman. “I thought we started out really well, focusing on our mistakes from our first game! One being aggressive and getting to the free throw line, which we did making 17 of 23.”

Anderson to Retire From WIAA Executive Director Position

The Board of Control accepted the retirement of Executive Director Dave Anderson, effective on July 30, 2021, in closed session of its December meeting today.
“The WIAA has been my home, my family and much of my life for the past 22 years, and I am grateful,” Anderson said. “It has always been the people and purpose that has defined the quality of every work experience, and within this office and membership, there are no finer people to work with.

Lady Ponies Lose to Black Hawk

The Lady Ponies varsity basketball team kicked off their season by hosting Black Hawk on December 4th.
Black Hawk led at the half, 44-19, and outscored the Lady Ponies 25-9 in the second to win the game by a final score of 69-28.
No further information was available at press time.
Monticello played at Williams Bay on December 7th and will play at Johnson Creek on December 10th, at Cambria-Friesland on December 12th, at Parkview on December 15th and at Pecatonica on December 17th.

Santa Visits New Glarus

On December 5, 2020, the New Glarus Youth Committee, with help from the New Glarus Fire Department, arranged for Santa to visit New Glarus. Firetrucks pulled a trailer with Santa on it and accompanied him around town to wave at all who came out to see him.
