<strong>Capt. W.G. Schindler to Command U.S.S. Topeka</strong>
<i>Wednesday, December 12, 1945</i>
Capt. W.G. Schindler, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Schindler, was a visitor here on Friday, being en route from Washington, D.C., to the west coast, where he is to take command of the U.S.S. Topeka. During his brief visit at New Glarus, he left a $50 check to be used as the beginning of a fund for a Swimming Pool for New Glarus.

Duppler-Smith Post 460 American Legion recently received a large donation from a woman from Belleville whose husband passed away a year ago. The man was a Veteran, and although he was not a member of our local organization, they have lived in the area for years. She wanted to donate in his memory, stipulating the money be used for a building renovation fund so our meetings and events will continue for the community. A building fund has been started and we will accept donations in the future if any individuals, families or business organizations would care to donate to this endeavor.

On Monday, November 16th, the South Central Chapter of the Wisconsin Farmers Union held its first-ever virtual Annual Meeting. Over two dozen members were in attendance, voting on additions to the chapter’s bylaws, approving policy changes that the chapter will address at the upcoming Farmers Union state convention and electing new members to the chapter board.
Among the people joining the board are David Parr of Monticello, Hawthorn McCracken of Orfordville and Kriss Marion of Blanchardville. Matt Sheaffer was elected to a second term as chapter President.
