Register Now for 4-H Science Day

4-H Science Day is back again this year with fun, new sessions and presenters! This year’s Science Day will be held at the Monroe campus of Blackhawk Technical College, at 210 4th Avenue, on Saturday, March 21, 2020, from 1:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Science Day is for 4-H members in grades 3-6.

Wisconsin Pork Association Elects New Board Members and Officer Team

The Wisconsin Pork Association (WPA) held its annual meeting on February 6, 2020, during the 2020 Wisconsin Corn/Soy/Pork Expo. The meeting included the president's report, focusing on year-end activities, discussing upcoming events, presentations from participants in the mentorship program, NPB CEO as well as election of directors, recognition of directors and award winners.
Elected to a three-year term on the WPA Board were Alicia Prill-Adams, Platteville; Ryan Cain, Osseo; and Mikayla Wehrle, Oshkosh.

Sugar River Euchre

The most important match of the night occurred at Harley Blue in Blue Mounds. The undefeated Kleeman Hay Shakers couldn’t get a whole lot of shaking going on as the Express, without three of their regular players, rolled over the Hay Shakers to make all of their stops on time and 47 points ahead of the Hay Shakers. With the Hay Shakers and Express tied for first place, a playoff match will occur on March 12th, time and place to be determined.

Naturally Speaking

It is not enough to simply say adult male Bald Eagles weigh 25 percent less than female Eagles. Biologists say this feature is an example of reverse sexual dimorphism. In other words, we expect males of a species to be larger than females but in Eagles, Balds and Goldens, the reverse is true.
Otherwise the genders are alike externally and so are most of their habits, including building nests, incubating, feeding, brooding, and bringing food to the Eaglets.

New Glarus Girls Knocked Out of Regionals

The New Glarus girls basketball team hosted a first round WIAA Regional game against Brookwood on February 25th. The Lady Knights were leading at the half, 31-6, and cruised to a 65-30 win.
Jaylynn Benson led the team with 19 points while Lily Himmelmann scored 11 points and Emma Marty put 10 points on the board.
The win led to a game at #3 seeded Cuba City on February 28th. New Glarus lost the game, 40-48. No further information was provided.

Wildcats End Regular Season With Two Wins

The Belleville Wildcats boys basketball team hosted Pardeeville on February 24th. Leading at the half with a score of 35-15, the Wildcats slipped a little on offense in the second half but still came away with a win. The final score was Belleville 62, Pardeeville 49.
The Wildcats were led in scoring by Kody Fahey with 21 points, while Trevor Syse scored 14 points and Carson Syse put 9 points on the board.

Knights End Regular Season With a Loss, Move on to Regionals

The New Glarus Glarner Knights hosted Cuba City on February 24th. Down 27-42 at the half, the Knights lost the game despite a second half offensive push. The final score was Cuba City 77, New Glarus 59.
With 22 points, which included six 3-pointers, Connor Siegenthaler led the Knights in scoring. Mason Martinson scored 11 points, while Deven Vasquez added 8 to the score.

Ponies to Start Tournament Seeded #1 in Division 5

The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team played at Pecatonica on February 27th for their last game of the regular season.
The Ponies began the game on a 10-0 run in the first 3 minutes of play, and led 37-18 at halftime. With a little over 15 minutes left in the second half, the Ponies were up 42-22 and then went on a 20-2 run to go up by 38 with less than 11 minutes left in the game. The closest the Vikings could get was 20 points for the rest of the game. The final score was Monticello 82, Pecatonica 49.

2020 Cheese Days Prince and Princess Contest

New Glarus resident Tyse Hoesly will soon be turning over his title of Cheese Days Prince to a new member of the Cheese Days royal family.
The 2020 Green County Cheese Days Prince and Princess Contest will be held Saturday, June 6, 2020, at the Historic Green County Courthouse in downtown Monroe. Judging and interviews will take place in the morning, with the Awards Ceremony to follow at noon.
