Smoke Detectors Save Lives!

On March 22, 2020, at approximately 3:07 a.m., the Belleville Fire Department, along with Belleville EMS, fire departments from Verona, Fitchburg and New Glarus, and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, were dispatched to an address on Paoli Road, in the Town of Montrose, for a residential structure fire with possible trapped occupants.
A Dane County Deputy arrived and found an active fire on the outside of an enclosed front porch. The deputy confirmed all occupants were out of the house and then deployed a fire extinguisher, which slowed the fire spread.

Governor Evers Directs DHS to Issue Safer at Home Order

Gov. Tony Evers has directed Department of Health Services (DHS) Secretary-designee Andrea Palm to issue a Safer at Home order that prohibits all nonessential travel, with some exceptions as clarified and defined in the order. The entire order may be found here: https://evers.wi.gov/Documents/COVID19/EMO12-SaferAtHome.pdf.
The order is effective at 8:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, and will remain in effect until 8:00 a.m., Friday, April 24, 2020, or until a superseding order is issued.

Greetings From a Distance

Some New Glarus folks held an impromptu walk by at the Glarner Lodge on Monday, March 23, 2020. The walkers kept a distance apart. They walked around the Glarner Lodge a couple of times to give the staff time to let residents know that the group was outside. A number of residents waved from their room or came out on balconies to greet the visitors.

Planned Power Outage in the Village of New Glarus

New Glarus Utilities will be making emergency repairs to the substation on Tuesday, March 31st, beginning at 11:00 p.m. The outage will affect the majority of New Glarus Utilities customers and is expected to last approximately 1 1/2 hours.

JAMES G. TITUS

James George Titus, age 82 of New Glarus, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison with family by his side. He was born on January 30, 1938, in Lake County, IL, the son of George and Helen (Miller) Titus.

Sugar River Euchre

After nine weeks of the regular season and one playoff match, the Harley Blue Express has secured the final spot in this year's championship match. The Express took an early 23-point lead and continued to pick up speed through the sixth round, where they lead by 62. In the seventh round though, it looked as if the Express could be running low on fuel as Opie Taylor and Dave Steinhauer shoveled just 1-point into the boiler for the Express, and John Scheidegger and Steve Hoffmaster managed just five scoops.

Belleville Girls Basketball Team Wraps Up 2019-2020 Season With Awards Night

On Sunday, March 8th, the Belleville Girls Basketball team finished its 2019-2020 season celebrating the season's many accomplishments. The beginning of the night saw Ella Campbell and Cecilia Grefsheim winning the Wisconsin Basketball Association 1st Team Award Certificate. This award is given to players that are proven to put the overall team goals ahead of their individual goals and always bring great attitude to each practice.
