South Central Farmers Union Monthly Meeting

The South Central Chapter of the Wisconsin Farmers Union will hold its next meeting and potluck at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Cow & Quince Restaurant, 407 2nd Street, New Glarus.
The agenda will include an open mic opportunity for discussion of topics of interest to farmers, rural residents and family farm supporters. Cash beverages and bar. All are welcome!

Sugar River Euchre

Kleeman's hosted the Sugar River Euchre League Spring Tournament on March 5th, with 16 couples attempting to be crowned top dogs of the tournament. After three rounds, just three couples still had a shot at a perfect score. However, after the fourth round, that number quickly dwindled to one, Jeff Judd and Steve Hoffmaster. Their next opponents, Barb Judd and Charlie Steinhauer, were only down by 4 with plans to close the gap. By the end of the fifth round, they had done just that.

Knights Win Over Brookwood, Lose to Fennimore

On March 3rd, the New Glarus Knights boys basketball team hosted Brookwood. New Glarus had a commanding 51-24 lead at the half and cruised to an 88-46 victory in the regional game.
Leading the Knights in scoring was Mason Martinson, who had 25 points, while Nathan Streiff put 17 on the board and Garrett James scored 11 points.

Wildcats' Season Ends in Regional Finals

The Belleville boys basketball team hosted a WIAA Regional game against Necedah on March 3rd. Up 35-18 at the half, the Wildcats won the game 62-47.
Sawyer Fahey and Carson Syse both scored 13 points to lead the Wildcats, while Royce Clark put 12 on the board.
The win on March 3rd advanced them to round two of the regionals, at Darlington, who was seeded #2. Down by 11 at the half, the Wildcats battled through the second half but it was not enough to win the game. The final score was Darlington 68, Belleville 55.

Belleville High School Math Team Wins South Division

On Monday, March 2, the Belleville High School Math Team competed at the Capitol Conference Math Meet in New Glarus. The Wildcat Varsity team won the South division! The team took second overall in the conference to Lakeside Lutheran in the North division. Jack Nolden led all Wildcats by medaling in the varsity competition. The Belleville JV Math team also won the South and placed third overall! They were paced by medal winner Jordyn Roberts. Congratulations to these Wildcat Mathletes for this outstanding academic performance!

New Glarus Chamber of Commerce Festival Tip Program

The New Glarus Chamber of Commerce has launched a new giveback initiative called Chamber Cheers, where non-profit organizations that commit to providing all bartenders and token sellers for a specific festival shift will receive all of the tips donated during that shift. This will give local groups extra facetime with the public, free publicity, and, of course, the financial boost. In 2019, the Chamber of Commerce tested the program with three different local groups, and the groups earned a combined total of over $2,000 in just five shifts.
