Sports Boosters Say Thank You!

Thank you to all of our golfers, hole sponsors, silent auction and raffle prize donors and winners! Our 50/50 winners were very gracious and donated their winnings back to our organization.
Thanks to all the Sports Booster Board members, our golf committee and other volunteers for making it all happen on and off the course! We appreciate all of your generous donations to support our student athletes, coaches and programs. It was an awesome day on the course. Maybe next year someone will win the BMW!

Green County 4-H to Host Free Explore 4-H Event

Have you ever been interested in getting involved in 4-H but didn’t know how? Have you ever been curious about the different types of projects available to exhibit at the Green County Fair? Have you ever wondered how to make a difference in your own community or how to become a stronger leader? Think 4-H is just for farm kids? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Green County 4-H has the perfect event for you. Explore 4-H Day will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019, from Noon to 3:00 p.m., at the Green County Fairgrounds, 2600 10th Street, Monroe.

JOYCE ALDERMAN

Joyce Alderman, age 89 of New Glarus, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019, at the New Glarus Nursing Home. She was born on March 20, 1930, the daughter of Ernest and Viola Johnson.
Joyce grew up in the Argyle/Blanchardville area and graduated from Blanchardville High School in 1944. On October 29, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert Alderman. Over the course of her career she worked as a medical and dental receptionist in New Glarus and Madison. After retirement she worked for the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce.

The 12th annual New Glarus Family Festival, hosted by Grace Church, was held on Sunday, September 8, 2019, in the New Glarus Village Park. The highly popular festival always provides a wonderful experience for visitors of all ages, and it is all FREE!

Wilhelm Tell Festival, A Labor Day Weekend Tradition in New Glarus

<strong></strong>Since 1938, the people of New Glarus have presented the Wilhelm Tell Pageant.
The pageant was the vision of Edwin Barlow, a world traveler who donated his home, Chalet of the Golden Fleece, to the Village of New Glarus.
The Wilhelm Tell play was written by Johann Christoph Friedrich Von Schiller and was completed in 1804.
For the first three years of the play's presentation in New Glarus it was performed in German only. In 1941 it was presented for the first time in English.

Nearly 17,000 Dairy Operations Enrolled in Dairy Margin Coverage Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that producers of nearly 17,000 dairy operations have signed up for the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program since signup opened June 17th. Producers interested in 2019 coverage must sign up before September 20, 2019.
DMC offers protection to dairy producers when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed cost (the margin) falls below a certain dollar amount selected by the producer.

Bought Rhododendrons or Azaleas This Season? Check for Disease, Plant Health Officials Caution

State plant health officials are advising consumers who bought rhododendrons or azaleas this spring and summer to be on the lookout for signs of a disease that could spread to oaks and kill them.
Plant health staff with the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection have identified Phytophthora ramorum, or P. ramorum, on rhododendrons at a northern Wisconsin nursery. This fungus causes sudden oak death, which has never been found on the landscape in Wisconsin. There is no human health risk.

MNG Swim Team Takes on Monona Grove

The Monroe-New Glarus swim team hosted Monona Grove for a conference meet on August 27th. The final scores were JV, MNG 47, MG 111 and Varsity, MNG 65, MG 105.
“We saw many fast swims,” said Coach Kendra Kalvin. “Overall, it was a great meet and the team is ready for the next challenge.”

Ponies Volleyball Tops Barneveld

The Monticello Ponies volleyball team hosted Barneveld to open their season on August 29th. Monticello won it in four, 25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 25-13.
Mackie Errthum led the team with 12 kills while Ellie Gustafson had 9. Emily Grant had 5 aces. Emily Grant led with 17 assists while Ellie Gustafson had 10.
No information about the tournament held on September 7th was furnished by the coach by press time.
The Ponies hosted Juda on September 10th, and play at Pecatonica on September 12th and at Black Hawk on September 17th.

Third Annual Wildcat Football Alumni Reunion

The third annual Wildcat Alumni Reunion was held at the Belleville vs New Holstein game Friday night, August 23rd, at the Sports Complex. It has been 92 years since football started being played at Belleville High School and 79 seasons under the lights! Each year the Alumni Night game focuses on a group of teams and honors them for the contributions they made in their day to what Belleville football is today.
