Sugar River Euchre League's 89th Season Is Upon Us

Euchre players, it’s time to clear your calendar and dust off the cards as we shuffle into the 89th Sugar River Euchre League season. A Captains’ meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m., on September 19th, at the Norsk Golf Club in Mount Horeb with the regular season beginning on Thursday, October 3rd.

Un-BEE-lievable Event

First day of school provides excitement as students wake early, greet friends they’ve not seen for months, meet new teachers in new classes, absorb new rules and routines and look forward (or not) to the first homework assignments. Then on this September Tuesday afternoon, as the last bells ring in New Glarus and Monticello, we jump on a bus and roar down to Monroe’s Twining Park for the Bruess Invitational, the first cross country meet of the season.

MNG Swim Team Competes at Milton

The Monroe/New Glarus swim team competed at Milton on September 3rd. The final score was Milton 100, Monroe/New Glarus 70.
“Monroe/New Glarus fought hard and had a good showing after a long weekend of no practice as well as the beginning of the school year,” said Coach Kendra Kalvin. “We saw Francesca Schiro show off her abilities in the 50 and 100 Free. Morgan Erstad had a great swim in the 500 Free, looking strong throughout. Overall the team came back in the second half of the meet physically, but more importantly emotionally. On to the next one!”

New Glarus Volleyball News

New Glarus volleyball is off to a new start. Last Tuesday, the Lady Knights met up against perennial powerhouse Wisconsin Heights in New Glarus. Though the score book didn’t show a win, the Knights competed and took one set from the Vanguards in a 1-3 loss.
Thursday night the Knights fought a 5-set battle hosting Marshall. Unfortunately, the win/loss record tagged another defeat, with a 2-3 finish.
On Saturday, the Knights travelled to Brodhead for their annual Tournament. The Lady Knights cruised to a Silver Bracket Championship, finishing 5th of 12 teams.

Columbus Ground Game Too Much For NGM

Friday, September 6. NGM traveled to Columbus for game #3 of the young 2019 season. It was another crossover game with another good Capitol North team.

Wildcats Shut Out Pumas

On Friday night, the Belleville Wildcats (1-1) traveled to Poynette to take on the unbeaten (2-0) Pumas. After a scoreless first quarter, the Wildcats got on the board first with a 12-yard touchdown strike from JJ Wenger to Josh Grebel. With just 93 seconds left in the half, Wenger found Sean McDermott in the back corner of the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown which made it 14-0 Wildcats heading into halftime.

Belleville Wildcat Cross Country News

The Wildcat Cross Country team saw success at the Darlington Invitational on Saturday. Senior Sean Campbell and Junior Tayler Yapp were recognized for their fast finishes. Sean finished in 19:11, which was good for 23rd place overall and Tayler finished 32nd overall with a time of 23:08. Sean was followed by sophomore Jordan Wilder with a time of 19:44 and freshman Lainey Winkers was our second runner for the girls with a time of 23:37.

Belleville Volleyball Wins Over Cambridge

The Belleville Wildcats volleyball team hosted Cambridge on September 5th. They won in three sets, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23.
Ava Foley led the team in kills with 8 while Brooke Everson had 7. Everson also had 2 blocks. Alyssa Caskey had 4 aces, Erin Kittleson had 22 assists and Ava Foley had 6 digs while Morgan Messner had 5.
The team hosted a dual with Marshall on September 10th and will compete at an invitational at Mount Horeb on September 14th before playing a dual at Wisconsin Heights on September 17th.
