Raiders Soccer Team Ranked Fourth in State in Division Three

In poll rankings for April 27th, the Belleville/New Glarus Raiders were ranked 4th in the state in Division 3.
Another week of play leaves the Raiders with a record of 10 wins and 2 losses, and leading the Capital Conference. A week of back-to-back road games found the team winning a conference match and losing by a goal to a strong rival in Mount Horeb.

Sugar River Track and Field Boys and Girls Teams Finish Third at Oregon Relays

On Friday, May 1, 2015, the Sugar River track and field team competed in the Oregon Relays. The boys and girls teams finished third out of five teams with Stoughton and Oregon taking first and second.
The Sugar River girls 4x100 meter relay team took fourth with a time of 57.22 while they took third in the 4x200 meter relay. In the girls 4x400 meter relay, Sugar River took fourth at 4:37.37; they took third in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:50.34 while they took second in the 4x1000 meter relay at 13:23.06 behind Edgewood.

Belleville Victorious against New Glarus Softball Team

On Thursday, April 30, the Belleville softball team lost 9-2 to Marshall at home.
Cassidy Heller went the distance for the Wildcats, facing 36 batters while walking one, striking out three, and giving up 13 hits and nine runs; five runs were earned.
“She (Heller) played a very strong defensive game as well making a lot of outs for us. In the second inning, she fielded two balls for outs and struck a batter out,” explained Head Coach Connie Wunschel. “In the seventh inning, she got all three outs as well: two on grounders and one on a line drive back at her.”

Monticello Dominates River Ridge/Cassville

On Thursday, April 30, the Monticello softball team defeated River Ridge/Cassville 11-1 on the road.
Courtney Leuzinger threw a no-hitter for the Ponies.
“The Ponies scored three runs in the first four innings, and Leuzinger was mowing them down, facing the minimum 12 batters through four innings; then, the bats came alive in the fifth and sixth scoring four in both frames,” stated Head Coach Duane Garrison.
On Tuesday, April 28, the Ponies edged Argyle for the win 7-6.

Knights Defeated by Columbus, Darlington

At Columbus on Friday, May 1, the New Glarus Knights were defeated 10-3.
Offensively, the Knights were led by Gavin Binger who was two for four with one run and one RBI, Jared Carney who was two for three with an RBI; Austin Schlueter who was one for three; Koner French was also one for three; John Chenoweth who was two for three with one run; and Hayden Latsch who was one for three.
Starting on the mound was French who pitched five innings; he gave up 11 hits and nine runs with seven of them being earned runs along with walking two and striking out eight.

Ponies Edged by Albany, 6-5

In game one of a doubleheader against Cassville, the Monticello baseball team was defeated 7-0.
The Ponies had three hits to Cassville’s four. Pusel, Spahr and Siegenthaler each had one hit while Marty pitched all six innings for Monticello. He gave up four hits and two earned runs while walking six and striking out three.
In game two, Monticello was dominated 15-0. Cassville had 13 hits, and Monticello only had six.
Offensively, Pusel went two for three with two doubles, and teammate Spahr was two for two.

Monticello Track and Field Team Competes at Cuba City, Black Hawk

The Ponies track and field team traveled to Cuba City on Thursday, April 30, to take part in the Christopher Becker Memorial Invite. Overall, the girls placed 10th out of 14 teams, and the boys took ninth place out of 15 teams.
Marquel Hawthorn, Natalie Lehr and Hallie Chicker ran the 100 meter dash while Lehr also ran the 200 meter dash.
Competing in the 400 meter dash for Monticello was Emilie Gietzel and Ashley Risley. Risley and Blum ran the 1600 meter run, and Risley placed fourth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:38.44, while Blum took sixth at 13:57.13.

Wisconsin dairy processors are invited to apply for the Grow Wisconsin Dairy 30x20 Processor Grants. The grants are intended to foster innovation, improve profitability and sustain the long-term viability of Wisconsin’s dairy processing facilities. Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is accepting requests for proposal through June 1.

Mock Accident at New Glarus High School

New Glarus Area EMS, New Fire Department, New Glarus Police, and Green County Deputies were called to a two-car accident with injuries and a fatality on Thursday, April 30. The distraught driver of the car at fault said he had just looked down for a moment while texting. His passenger was killed and the two people in the other car were seriously injured.

Town of New Glarus Spring Tree Sale

The Town of New Glarus Parks Commission presents their Annual Pre-order pick-up and Day of Sale, Spring Trees program. They will be holding this event at the Town Hall at 1101 Hwy 69, in the Swiss Miss Center, on Saturday, May 9, from 8:00 a.m. to Noon, or until all are sold. This year’s tree types included Sugar Maple, White Pine, Burr Oak, Quaking Aspen, Tamarack and Shagbark Hickory. All trees are bare root and 2-3’ in size, day of sale price is $6.00 each, on a first come first serve basis.
