New Glarus Vision Childrens' Book Drive

Join us in our efforts to provide our New Glarus youth with quality books for summer reading. We are looking for age-appropriate books for Pre-K to 2nd graders to be given free of charge to the students at the end of the school year. Please drop your gently used or new book donations at the New Glarus Public Library or the New Glarus Elementary School Office by May 31st.

New Glarus Optimists to Hold Clothing and Sports Equipment Drive

Starting May 1st through May 10th, the New Glarus Optimists will be collecting outgrown and unused clothes and shoes (newborn on up), as well as sports equipment and other sports items families may not be using any longer and want to donate: i.e., cleats, footballs, rafts, fishing pools etc. and sports equipment.  There will be collection tubs at local businesses, UB&T on State Highway 69 and New Glarus Fitness Center.

American Cancer Society Seeks Teams for Relay For Life of Green County

The American Cancer Society is recruiting teams from businesses, schools, families, places of worship, and more to participate in the Relay For Life of Green County event, which will be held Saturday, June 27th, at the Brodhead High School track. Relay For Life teams are committed to finishing the fight against cancer and raise funds to support the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving mission.

Deanna Truedson, Outreach Coordinator, ADAW, will be presenting the program and it is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin.

First Dollar Award

Allen Brokopp, President of the Monticello Chamber of Commerce, awards Amanda Bliss (Massage Therapist) of Bliss Relaxations her First Dollar award.  Bliss Relaxation operates out of Total Look, Monticello, Wisconsin.  Her hours are Monday and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Middle School Students Earn Awards

Five Belleville students were awarded recognition by their middle school teachers at the 31st Annual Jr. High Achievement Awards Banquet sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Belleville on April 28, 2015.
Those honorerd include (L to R): Jaydon Winkers-math, Emily Flick-language arts, Sydney Gentilli-science, Julia McNamar-fine arts, and Isaac Brummel-social studies.

Rolling Pin Bake Shop Open for Business in Belleville at Library Park on Saturdays

Tanya Liter and Bill McKnight, owners of the Rolling Pin Bake Shop in Fitchburg, are looking to expand their presence outside the Madison proper. So, Judy Bacha approached Tanya about testing the Belleville market as an option.
In their brainstorming session, Tanya agreed to provide her Russian, European and American baked goods in a Farmer’s Market venue each Saturday morning throughout the spring, summer and fall.

Restoration Continuing on Lake Belle View Islands

The Village of Belleville is continuing restoration of the new habitat areas on the Lake Belle View islands that were created during the 2010-2011 construction project. Restoration is necessary to improve vegetation diversity and habitat conditions in the newly created island areas with the ultimate goal of creating healthy, productive floodplain/wetland forest and oak-savanna prairie habitats. It is also required by WI Department of Natural Resources and the United States Army Corps of Engineers to mitigate for the impacts of the original construction project.
