Streiff to Retire from Wilhelm Tell Play

Dean Streiff, who has been a performer in the Wilhelm Tell play since 1949, has decided this year will be his last year performing. In celebration of his years with the play, on Sunday, September 3, following the Tell Play, Dean and Doris Streiff will host a party at their home east of the Village of New Glarus on CTH W from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Friends, family and current and former cast members are invited! Congratulations Dean!

New Glarus Brewing Company Plans Fireworks

The New Glarus Brewing Company wanted to let pet owners know that on Saturday, August 26th, there will be fireworks near the brewery’s Hilltop facility. Some pets can become frightened or disoriented by the sound. The brewery will be closed for an employee party but the fireworks will be easily viewed from the village of New Glarus.

New Glarus Receives Awards at Wisconsin Department Convention

At the American Legion Department Convention in Appleton, WI, New Glarus was awarded the National American Legion Post Excellent Award. Stuessy-Kuenzi New Glarus Post #141 received the National American Legion Post Excellence Award for their activities in the four pillars of service. These pillars of service include Veteran Assistance and Rehabilitation, National Defense, Children and Youth, and Community Service. This is the seventh consecutive year that the post has won this award. The award was presented by State Commander Dan Seehafer to Post Commander Steven Hodgson.

Kids Read to Send Books to Africa

The kids at the Monticello Public Library read to earn books to send to Africa this summer.  Last Thursday, Carolyn Seaver and her husband Doug loaded a van to take the books to Atlanta, GA, where they will be sorted in the Books For Africa warehouse to be sent to Africa. Thank you to all the kids who read, and to the people who donated money.

Monticello Area Historical Society Meeting

The Monticello Area Historical Society (MAHS) will meet at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 24, 2017, in the Zwingli United Church of Christ Sanctuary, 416 E. Lake Avenue, Monticello.
Pigeons: White, racing, homing pigeons are Gary Davison's passion. Davison, of rural Monticello, will discuss the history of pigeons, breeding, training and racing.
This is a free presentation and will start about 7:15 p.m., after the regular meeting of the MAHS. Come join us; the public is welcome.
