Madison Jazz Society Announces 2017-18 Grant Program for Jazz Education Programs

In October, the Madison Jazz Society will award grants, on a competitive basis, to school jazz centered programs. In 2016, over $5,000 in grants were awarded to schools throughout the state to enhance their jazz education programs.

Traffic Grant Results in Dane County Arrests

Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies, working a WI Department of Transportation funded traffic grant on Friday and Saturday, made a number of arrests. Six Deputies worked the alcohol grant from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17th until 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, in partnership with City of Madison Police.

Fundraiser for Green Cares Food Pantry

We are hoping you will join Green Cares Food Pantry at our upcoming fundraiser at the beautiful Hawk’s Mill Winery in Browntown. Sip, Savor and Support will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2017, from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., and is sure to be a good time all while raising funds to help support our neighbors right here in Green County! Tickets are $35.00 in advance, and $40.00 at the door. Your ticket includes eight wine tastings (beer and non-alcoholic options available), hors d’oeuvres, a tour of the winery and entertainment by The Gathering.

Green County Veterans Name Collection

The Green County Veterans Memorial Park Committee is collecting the names of all Green County Veterans, living or dead, so their names can be included in the gazebo that is being constructed at the Memorial Park site. If you are or know of someone who is a US veteran, has lived anytime in Green County, Wisconsin, served in any of the US Armed Forces, and was honorably discharged, please submit the following information: Veteran’s Name, Years served or War Era, Contact Person’s name, phone number and email address.

Monroe Clinic Hospice Support Group

The journey through grief is difficult. Many people find it comforting to face grief with others experiencing similar challenges. To help through the journey, Monroe Clinic Hospice is holding a Hope Eternal After Loss (HEAL) grief education and support group, which provides resources and encouragement for people grieving the death of a loved one. The six-week HEAL group meets Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m., September 6-October 11, 2017, at the St. Camillus Center, 2101 6th Street, Monroe.

High School Activities Bring Communities Together

Tailgates. Pep rallies. Friday night lights. The new school year is here! And that’s exciting news for student-athletes and high school sports fans alike.
Research shows that being a student-athlete is about a lot more than fun and games. It teaches important life lessons, too. In fact, high school athletes not only have higher grade point averages and fewer school absences than non-athletes, they also develop the kind of work habits and self-discipline skills that help them become more responsible and productive community members.

First Ever Wildcat Football Reunion August 25th

There will be a first ever reunion of ALL Belleville High School football alumni the evening of August 25th.  This includes former players, coaches, cheerleaders, managers and fans from the 1940s until the Class of 2017.  The event will be held from 5:00 p.m. to Midnight at the beer garden of J&M’s.  This event will be held in conjunction with the Belleville Wildcat – Boscobel Bulldog football game held at the Sports Complex at 7:00 p.m. The schedule is: 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Reception/Meet & Greet at J&M’s Beer Garden; 6:30 p.m.

Swim Team Wins First Meet

The Monroe/New Glarus High School Girls Swim Team competed in their first meet on Thursday, August 17th at Platteville/Lancaster. The varsity team won, 110 to 55 and the JV team also won, 25-9.
“Monroe/New Glarus took 1st place in 11 out of the 13 events they swam in tonight,” commented Coach Linda Moser.  “They came into this meet with energy and excitement to get their season underway.”

New Glarus Community Foundation New Glarus Excellence in Education Fund Announcing New 2017-2018 Grant Cycle

The New Glarus Community Foundation is accepting grant applications from nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations that provide direct service to the New Glarus community and from local government entities providing charitable programs to New Glarus. Requests from individuals are not eligible.
The New Glarus Excellence in Education Fund is accepting grant applications from schools in the New Glarus School District to support classroom programs or projects.
