New Glarus Bike Rodeo

For eight years, the New Glarus Police Department and New Glarus Chamber have hosted a bike rodeo in early May. A rodeo is a bicycle skills event which provides an opportunity for young bicyclists to practice and develop skills that will help them to become better bicyclists and avoid typical crashes.
This year’s bike rodeo will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., at the Depot on Railroad Street.

Village of New Glarus – Trustee Vacancies

The Village of New Glarus is seeking qualified residents to serve in the capacity of Village Trustee for the Village Board of Trustees. There are currently two (2) vacancies. One (1) vacancy is a one (1) year term, expiring 4/2020 and the other is for a two (2) year term, expiring 4/2021. The Village Board meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday each month. Trustees would be involved in Committee/Commission work as well that could include 1-2 additional monthly meetings.

2019 New Glarus Farmers Market

The New Glarus Farmers Market plans to open on Friday, May 10th. The location stays the same as last year, in the parking lot of the New Glarus Hometown Pharmacy at 1101 State Highway 69 and the market has new hours for the 2019 season, from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
The New Glarus Farmers Market is a vendor operated group whose purpose is to contribute to the success of their local agriculture and small scale farmers, as well as specialty product entrepreneurs. The market strengthens the local economy, connects people to local agriculture and serves as a community gathering place.

New Village Administrator

Drake Daily has begun his new job as the Village Administrator for New Glarus. Daily graduated from UW-Madison with a BA in Political Science and History and graduated from Robert A. Lafollette School of Public Affairs with a Master's Degree in Public Affairs, Public Policy and Management.
Before coming to New Glarus, Daily was a Management Analyst for the city of Sun Prairie.
Daily said he is looking forward to meeting and working with the residents of New Glarus.

New Glarus FCCLA Attends State Leadership Conference

New Glarus Middle and High School FCCLA chapters attended the FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Wisconsin Dells from Monday, April 8th-Wednesday, April 10th. There were a total of 16 students in attendance from New Glarus Middle and High School.

^Hollywood Under the Stars^" Monticello Junior Prom 2019"

This year’s Junior Class of 2020 has been working very hard in hopes of putting on an amazing prom! The theme for this year’s prom is titled Hollywood Under The Stars, and the dance will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019, in the Rehmstedt Gym, with the Grand March starting at 7:00 p.m. Doors will open for spectators at 6:30 p.m.
The costs are $1.00 for spectators of the Grand March, $5.00 for a single person to get into the dance, and $8.00 for a couple to get into the dance.

April Meeting of the Monticello Area Historical Society

The Monticello Area Historical Society (MAHS) will meet at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 25, in the Zwingli UCC Lounge, 416 E. Lake Avenue, Monticello.
Following a short business meeting, Julie Ruegsegger will present a history of the Washington Reformation UCC.
This is a free presentation and will start about 7:15 p.m. Come join us, the public is welcome to attend both activities.

Zwingli Kalberwurst Supper

The annual Kalberwurst Supper will be held at Zwingli United Church of Christ, 416 E. Lake Avenue, on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 4:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
The menu, served family style, includes Kalberwurst (donated by Clarence and Pat Pluss), Ham, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Copper Penny Carrots, Applesauce, Swiss Bread, Cookies and Bars. Carry outs are available. Adult tickets are $13.00; children 5-10 years old, $6.00; and children 4 and under eat free.

House Demolished

Monticello residents watched as the house at 239 N. Main Street in Monticello was torn down last week. The Village had ordered the demolition after the house was found to be unsafe and negotiations with the owners for clean up had failed.

Belleville Police to Hold Drug Drop Off

The Belleville Police Department, along with the Belleville Area Cares Coalition (BACC), will be taking drive-up drug drop offs in the Belleville Fire Department parking lot, 33 E. Main Street, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 27, 2019, which is National Drug Take Back Day. This is a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused and expired prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Solid and liquid medications, creams, ointments, nasal sprays, and pet medication can be left for disposal.
