Recycle Your Old Eyeglasses

The Wisconsin Lions are aiming to collect 100,000 pairs of used eyeglasses by May 2017, so recycle your old eyeglasses and change a life.
Eye care in third world countries is hard to come by and when found, is far too expensive for most to afford. When you consider the importance of sight when it comes to employment and education, it is easy to understand how poor vision leads to increased poverty.  The Monticello Lions Club is working to reverse this by collecting used eyeglasses here, and then recycling them for distribution by Lions and other groups to third world countries.

Retirement/Farewell Party For Police Chief Tom Erb

Following over 41 years of service to the Village of Monticello, Police Chief Tom Erb has retired.
Everyone is invited to the Retirement/Farewell party to wish Chief Erb well and enjoy some cake.
The party will be held in the Monticello Village Hall Board Room from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Friday, January 6, 2017.

Monticello Lions Club Scholarships

Monticello Lions President Dan Roe, Lion Linn Lederman and Lion Nancy Elmer presented $500.00 scholarships to college students continuing their education. Those receiving the scholarships were Aaron Hefty, Hunter Pratt, Maddie Bartels and John Zuber (who is missing from the photo).

Hawaiian Night The Theme For Game Versus Cambridge

On Tuesday, January 10, 2017, the Belleville Varsity Girls Basketball team is hosting the Cambridge Blue Jays in a conference battle. The game will be held in the Belleville High School Gymnasium with a start time of 7:30 p.m. The Belleville Sports Marketing Class is in charge of the fan experience for the night and have set the theme for the night as “Hawaiian Night”. We encourage all fans to dress appropriately. The events of the night include free leis, free raffles, and a chance to be in the halftime show.

Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast

The Belleville Knights of Columbus, Council #6630, will host a Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, January 8, 2017, from 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.  The event will be held at St. Mary of Lourdes Hall, 227 Frederick Street, Belleville. The cost is $6.00 for adults, $4.00 for children (4-12), free (3 and under).  
Through a number of fundraising and other related activities, the Council supports several programs, including Coats For Kids, Apostolate to the Handicapped, The Belleville Food Pantry, Wisconsin Special Olympics and area pregnancy centers.

Ott Reappointed As Drainage Commissioner

Judge James R. Beer and Judge Thomas J. Vale have announced that John B. Ott, New Glarus, has been reappointed to a three-year term as a Drainage Commissioner effective January 1, 2017. Other members serving on the committee include Joseph D. Schwarzenberger, Monroe, and John Dieckhoff, Brodhead.

Koss and Zgraggen Announce Engagement

Kelly Koss and Nik Zgraggen are pleased to announce their engagement. Kelly is the daughter of Chuck and Rebecca Koss from Proctor, MN, and Nik is the son of Tony and Esther Zgraggen from New Glarus, WI.
Kelly and Nik met at the University of North Dakota while studying Aeronautics. They currently are both airline pilots residing in Union, KY. Their wedding is set for the fall of 2017.

Feel Good About Giving Back By Donating Blood

Many people want to give back to the community, but may not have a lot of time to volunteer. The American Red Cross reminds eligible individuals that in only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and feel instant gratification. Blood is a perishable product that can only come from generous volunteers. By donating blood, individuals can make a difference in the lives of patients in their community and throughout the nation.

New Glarus Jr. FCCLA Members Collecting Donations

Dear Editor,
Our names are Katherine Burgess, Kaitlyn Peterson and Kortney Peterson. We are in a school organization called Jr. FCCLA and we were trying to collect blankets and stuffed animals. The blankets go to a program at our school District (New Glarus School District) called Caring For Kids and the stuffed animals go to the New Glarus Area EMS and the Green County EMS.

Ruegsegger Five Generation Photo

Seated in the center is 92-year-old, great-great grandmother Irma Ruegsegger of New Glarus, holding the newest member of the Ruegsegger family, Kylan Ruegsegger. Standing behind Irma is Kylan's great-grandfather, Roy Ruegsegger of Blanchardville. To the right of Irma is Kylan's grandfather, Todd Ruegsegger of Verona, and to Irma's left is Kylan's father, Riley Ruegsegger of Windsor, Wisconsin.
Interesting note: Todd was the first grandchild of Albert and Irma Ruegsegger. Riley was their first great-grandchild and Kylan is their first great-great grandchild.
