Dane Arts Announces Grant Writing Workshop Offered This Winter Aimed At Helping Artists

Dane Arts announced recently that they will be offering a Grant Writing Workshop on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, 4:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m., at the City County Building, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Room 351. The Grant Writing Workshop will focus on how to be competitive for Dane Arts Grants.  Suggestions will be offered on how to strengthen the narrative and project description, demographic data required, the value added of strong supplemental materials, and a defined budget detailing how Dane Arts funds will be spent.

Lady Wildcats Win Against Parkview

In a game played at Parkview on December 29th, the Belleville girls basketball team won against the host team. The final score was Belleville 59, Orfordville Parkview 43.
Grace Schulting poured in 21 points for the Wildcats and had seven rebounds and two steals. Putting 11 points on the board was Rachael Heittola. Heittola also had five rebounds, one steal and four blocks. Aimee Sies and Jade Halvensleben each scored 8 points. Sies pulled down four rebounds and had three steals while Halvensleben had five rebounds and one steal.

Raiders Participate in Lourdes Academy OTW Classic

The Sugar River Raiders wrestlers participated in the Lourdes Academy OTW Classic the weekend before the New Year.
Lucas Fink (5-7) wrestled in the 113 lb weight class and scored 4 team points. In round one, Fink lost by fall to Parker Schamburek of Sheboygan Falls. For round two, Fink received a bye. In round three, Fink won by decision of Brendan Konitzer of Oconto Falls. Fink lost in round four to Wautoma/Wild Rose’s Abram Lezama.

Belleville Loses Heartbreaker to Parkview

After holding a 3-point lead over Parkview at the end of the first half, the Wildcats lost by four points to Orfordville Parkview on December 29th. The home team outscored Belleville's boys in the second half to secure their win. The final score was Parkview 55, Belleville 51.
Drew Shrader poured in 17 points to lead the team in scoring. Tony O'Connor scored 12 points and Daniel Meier and Brock Kelly scored 9 points each.

Ponies Play in Cambridge Tournament

The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team played in the Cambridge Tournament on Thursday, December 29th.
Their first game was versus Cambridge. After Cambridge jumped out to a 10-point lead, the Ponies came back to tie the game during the first half but right before halftime the home team went on a 13-3 run and the Ponies were down by 10 at the half. The Ponies hustled during the second half to catch up but weren’t able to get closer than 7 points. Cambridge went on a 11-2 run to close out the game. The final score was Cambridge 69, Monticello 49.

Knights Win Against Cheesemakers

On December 27th, the New Glarus Knights boys basketball team played a non-conference game against the Badger South’s Monroe Cheesemakers, at home. After leading by 9 at the half, the Knights beat the Cheesemakers; the final score was New Glarus 88, Monroe 71.
The Knights dominated in the first half, at one point leading by 17 points thanks to a slew of turnovers by Monroe. The Cheesemakers responded with a 12-3 run. In the second half, the Knights led by as many as 18 points and the Cheesemakers attempted to overtake them but were not successful.

Lady Knights Trampled by Warriors

The New Glarus girls basketball team played at Black Hawk on December 29th, losing to the home team after being down by 20 at the half. The final score was Black Hawk 71, New Glarus 37.
Willow Lee scored 15 points for the Lady Knights. Julia Barnaby put 8 points on the board.
The team has an overall record of 6-5. After a short break, the team will host Marshall on January 5th and Waterloo on January 10th. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.

In celebration of the Holiday Season, the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce held a decorating contest. Although there was no cost to enter, only those homes that filled out entry forms were part of the judging.

NG Middle School FCCLA Members to Hold Fundraiser at Culver's

On January 9th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Culver's of New Glarus on State Road 69 will be hosting a fundraising evening. Come join us for dinner, and Culver's will donate 10% of their profits to Heartland Farms.

Blue Star Banner Presented

A Blue Star Banner was presented to Larry and Jen Jackson, parents of Airman Ben Jackson, at the New Glarus Veterans Memorial Hall on the evening of December 28, 2016. Making the presentation was Steve Hodgson, Commander of Stuessy-Kuenzi New Glarus American Legion Post #141.
