Belleville FFA Attends State Leadership Conference

On January 13th, two members of the Belleville FFA Chapter, Clarice Loeffelholz and Denise Rankin, traveled to Stevens Point, Wisconsin. They attended the Wisconsin Association of FFA Half-Time Leadership Conference. With only two members from each FFA Chapter in Wisconsin attending, every member got an amazing opportunity to set goals and prepare for the second half of their year of service for their local FFA Chapter.

Sign Up For Conservation Practices

The Green County Land and Water Conservation Department has extended the sign up for applications of soil conservation and water quality practices.
Practices approved for the Land and Water Conservation Department are paid on a 70% cost-share per practice basis.
A few examples of practices that are offered are: well decommissioning, grassed waterways, manure storage, barnyard runoff control systems, stream bank improvement, cattle and equipment crossings, roof gutters, and diversions.

Tractor and Machinery Safety Certification Course

Area youth, ages 12-16 years old (youth must turn 12 years old by the end of the course), are invited to participate in a Tractor and Machinery Safety Certification course, co-sponsored in part by the UW-Extension-Green County, Green County Agricultural Education Instructors (Albany, Argyle, Belleville, Brodhead, Juda, Monroe, Monticello and New Glarus), Blackhawk Technical College, Juda Fire Department, Monroe Fire Department, New Glarus Area EMS, Juda Community Center, Green County Farm Bureau, Green County Fairgrounds, Green and Lafayette County Sheriff’s Departments, Carter & Gruene

Both Hooterville teams lose in Blue Mounds. The Express fell to Jones’ Plumbing by 15 points while the Shufflers’ 37-point demise came at the hands of Eagle Heights. Three Screaming Eagle couples compiled 107 points (Ron and Neil Fargo, Stan Novotny and Dean Disch, and Paul Hodgson and Randy Schmid) while only one Shuffler couple reached the 100-point barrier. Pipe-Benders Jeff Ellingson and John Ott piped-in 113 points, with Tiny Zander and Chris Booth right behind at 110. Don Hook and Steve Hoffmaster (Hooterville-Express) stoked the boilers for 109 points.

Lady Wildcats Best Marshall

The Lady Wildcats traveled to Marshall on January 19th. Belleville down by 10 at halftime, but outscored Marshall in the second half to claw their way to a win. The final score was Belleville 80, Marshall 75.
Grace Schulting led the Wildcats in scoring with 23 points. Rachael Heittola scored 18 points and Aimee Sies and Krista Diaz each contributed 13 points towards the win.
On Saturday, Belleville hosted Albany and crushed the Comets, winning 65-45. They took the lead in the first half and the Comets just couldn't catch up.

Avalanche Fall to Panthers

The game that the Monroe Avalanche Co-op hockey team was to play against Stevens Point Pacelli was postponed due to the weather on January 17th, so the team had a nice little break before they hosted Oregon on Friday, January 20th.
“Cohesively, as a team, this was one of the best games we’ve played to date,” stated Coach Josh Smith. “We controlled the game for the entire first period until Oregon put one in with 15 seconds left in the first period. We let up a little bit in the second and had two big collapses that lead to two (Oregon) goals.”

Knights Ground Bluejays

The New Glarus Knights girls basketball team hosted Cambridge on January 19th.
Coach Kim Burton said, “The Knights started out the game red hot on offense, led by Julia Barnaby’s 15 first half points and played outstanding team defense.” The Knights led at the half, 30-18.
Struggling to take care of the ball in the second half, the Knights were still able to hold on to the lead.
“Seniors Sarah Rotar and Devon Boll did an outstanding job at the free throw line in the closing minutes as they went 8/8,” added Coach Burton.

Ponies Fall to Comets

The Monticello Ponies played an exciting game at Albany on January 20th. With three lead changes and four ties in the first seven minutes of the game, the crowd was on their feet cheering for their respective teams.
The Comets went on a 9-1 run to go up by eight with less than six minutes left in the first half, and the Ponies fought back to get within three, but with seven seconds left in the first, Albany scored to go up by five at halftime, 32-27.
