Sugar River Wrestlers Begin Season

On December 5th, the Sugar River wrestling team competed at a Dual vs Pecatonica/Argyle. Pec/Argyle won, 51-18.
Wrestling at 126 lbs, Sugar River's Alonso Vega won by fall over Dawson Gross.
At 132 lbs, SR's Joe Quaglia lost to Noah Krahenbuhl.
Wrestling at 138 lbs, SR's Brian Hollis lost to Kristian Orloff.
Sugar River's Brycen Schuhmacher lost to Dakota Doescher at 145 lbs.
Robert Chenoweth, wrestling at 160 lbs for Sugar River, won over Justin Heatheshaw.

Hockey Team Has Winning Week

The Monroe Cheesemakers co-op hockey team hosted DeForest on December 5th, winning 5-2.
Cade Janecke scored the first goal for the Cheesemakers with assistance from Hayden Roth and Cooper Dreyfus. Janecke, assisted by Roth and Payton Stauffacher, scored again less than 5 minutes later in the first period to make the score 2-0.
In the second period, Janecke scored twice more, assisted once by Cooper Dreyfus and Payton Stauffacher and the second goal with assistance from Hayden Roth and Dreyfus.

Hardwood Trees for Planting Spring 2020

The Green County Land & Water Conservation Department is offering nine varieties of trees and two varieties of shrubs for landowners interested in planting next spring. The tree varieties are Bur Oak, Red Oak, White Oak, Swamp White Oak, Sugar Maple, Shagbark Hickory, American Plum, White Pine, and Norway Spruce. Shrubs available are Serviceberry and Black Currant. The trees and shrubs are bare root, and range in height between 1’-4’ depending on species. The cost is $20.00 for a bundle of 10, and must be ordered in increments of 10.

Lady Ponies Win Over Madison Country Day School, Lose to Albany

The Monticello Lady Ponies played at Madison Country Day School on December 3rd. They led 22-6 at the half and ended the game with a 49-15 victory.
“Our girls stepped up as we were missing 4 of our players due to illness and injury,” noted Coach Mark Gustafson.
Mackie Errthum poured in 22 points and had 17 rebounds for Monticello, while Miah Brokopp scored 9 points and Alexa Siegenthaler scored 6 points.

Mia Belle Miller Brings Home Gold

Mia Belle Miller is a level 3 registered USA gymnast from New Glarus, competing with Gymfinity's gymnastics team, and competed at the Wisconsin State Championship in Appleton on December 7th. Mia placed 1st All-Around, 1st on Bars, 1st on Beam, 1st on Floor and 6th on Vault. Her team from Gymfinity also took 1st place. This is Mia's second year in a row competing at state.

Knights Pick Up Road Win

The New Glarus Knights played at Lena-Winslow on December 7th. The Knights led 37-22 at the half and went on to win the game 51-32. Mason Martinson was the top scorer for New Glarus with 15 points while Darris Schuett and Nathan Streiff each scored 8 points.
New Glarus will host Barneveld on December 16th, and then play at Darlington on December 20th and Monroe on December 27th.

Lady Knights Lose to Poynette and Lodi

The New Glarus girls played at home against Poynette on December 3rd. The Lady Knights lost a hard-fought battle on a last second shot by Poynette, making the final Poynette 60, New Glarus 58.
New Glarus was down 25-34 at halftime and down by 13 with six minutes left in the second half, but the girls never gave up.
Junior Jaylynn Benson finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Lily Himmelmann added 12 points and 8 rebounds and Dylan Noll put in 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

Wildcats Win First Two Games

The Belleville Wildcats boys basketball team opened their season against Deerfield on December 3rd with a win. Belleville led at halftime, 36-27, and went on to win the game. The final score was Belleville 57, Deerfield 52.
Royce Clark scored 24 points to lead Belleville, while Trevor Syse scored 9 points and Carson Syse scored 8 points.
On Friday, December 6th, the Belleville Wildcats hosted Parkview. Leading by 32 points at the half, the Wildcats easily beat the visitors. The final score was Belleville 83, Parkview 45.

Lady Wildcats Have Winning Week

Belleville Girls Basketball brings home the win in both of their games during the first week of December.
On Tuesday, December 3rd, the team traveled to Pecatonica for a non-conference game against the Vikings. The Wildcats came out on fire from the beginning and were very focused throughout, leading to an 81-25 victory over the Pecatonica Vikings.
Coach Tony Pharo was very happy with the effort of the girls on this night. It was a great team win.
Leading scorers for Belleville were senior Erin Kittleson with 20 points and sophomore Ava Foley with 16.
