USDA Offers Producers Options to Re-enroll or Extend Expiring CRP Contracts

Farmers and ranchers with expiring Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) contracts may now re-enroll in certain CRP continuous signup practices or, if eligible, select a one-year contract extension. USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) also is accepting offers from those who want to enroll for the first time in one of the country’s largest conservation programs. FSA’s 52nd signup for CRP runs from June 3 to August 23.

SBA Deadline for Wisconsin Small Businesses to Apply for Working Capital Loans is July 18

The U.S. Small Business Administration is reminding businesses in Wisconsin that working capital loans are still available to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and private nonprofit organizations affected by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, flooding and landslides from August 17 through September 14, 2018.

Wags 'n Wheels Poker Run

Two wheels or four, all are welcome to join the Wags ’n Wheels Poker Run on Saturday, July 6, 2019, to benefit the Green County Humane Society.
Vehicles will depart at 11:00 a.m., from the Junction House north of Monroe, to travel the scenic countryside through Green, Lafayette, Iowa and Dane counties, making five stops along the way to collect playing cards in a quest to create a winning poker hand. Each stop will also include raffles, prizes and other fun.

Dane County FSA to Host County Committee Election Open House

Dane County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Curt Norgard announced that there will be an open house on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Dane County FSA office located at 5201 Fen Oak Dr. Rm 226 in Madison. FSA county office staff will provide information on FSA’s County Committee Election process.

Stories in the Stars

The Discovery Center is bringing their super-cool inflatable planetarium to the New Glarus Public Library!
In the morning, join us for the Junior Planetarium. Explore the animals of the night sky in this “not too dark” show designed just for our toddler and preschool friends. We’ll look for different animal constellations while meeting their stuffed animal counterparts and hearing a few stories along the way in our big inflatable dome (sorry, it’s not a bounce house…). Showtimes at 10:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Zimmerman Named Academic All-American for UW-Whitewater Track and Field

Landon Zimmerman, a native of New Glarus and graduate of New Glarus High School, and junior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s track and field team, earned third team 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America for Division III Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Zimmerman, the Warhawks’ fourth Academic All-America selection since 2011, carried a 3.99 grade point average on a 4.0 scale through the fall 2018 semester. He is majoring in accounting.

Alphorn Triathlon Donates to New Glarus Schools

Members of the Alphorn Triathlon organization presented the New Glarus School Board with a check for $6,250 at a recent school board meeting. A portion of the funds will be used to help with the purchase of a new scoreboard in the middle school MPR with the remainder to be given to all high school sports teams for equipment needs they may have.

Washington Church Music Festival To Be Held

Washington Reformation Church will be holding its Music Festival, rain or shine, on Thursday, July 4th, from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Along with music and food, there will be a quilt raffle.
On July 4, 1876, a celebration was held on the new foundation of Washington Church, including music and food. Over the years, this tradition has continued with Washington’s reputation for good music and good food.
This year, music will be provided by The Greenfield Brothers, Hymns & Hers, Country 4 and Greg Anderson. First band plays at Noon.

Monticello PTO to Sponsor Pony Trot

The Monticello Parent Teacher Organization is holding their 4th Annual PTO Pony Trot Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Monticello School. This event is held during Monticello Homecoming. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m., with the Kids 1K run/walk starting at 8:00 a.m., and the 5K run/walk starting at 8:30 a.m. Registration is $10 for 18 and under; $20 for 19 and older before June 30th and $25 after.
