Invite Pollinators to Your Yard

Now that we can finally get into our gardens after a cold, rainy spring, Secretary Ben Brancel says we should keep our pollinators in mind. Brancel leads the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
Without pollinators, Wisconsin cranberry growers would lose three-quarters of their crop, apple growers would lose 80 percent, and cherry growers would lose 60 percent. In 2015, that would have added up to a whopping $134 million loss.

Green County Breakfast on the Farm

The 2017 Green County Dairy Breakfast was held on Saturday, May 27th, at Rollin' Green Dairy Farm, located south of Brooklyn, Wisconsin, off County Highway 104. Families could not only enjoy a great breakfast but a number of activities including wagon rides and meeting Green County Dairy Queen Libby Beck and Green County Dairy Princess Emily Streiff.

Sugar River Track Athletes Compete at State Track Meet

The Sugar River Track team sent three competitors to the State Track Meet held on the UW-La Crosse campus on June 2nd and 3rd.
Dalton Fahey competed in the 400-Meter Dash and finished with a time of 51.72, which was a ninth place finish.
Noelle Maire competed in two events. In the 1600-Meter Run, Maire finished with a time of 5:13.51, snagging her a sixth place finish. In the 3200-Meter Run, Maire finished in third place, with a time of 11:23.46.
Krista Diaz placed second in the 100m Hurdles, with a time of 15.74.

New Glarus Vision's Books 4 Kids program, through generous donations and tireless Limburger sales, handed out over 1,000 books to the Elementary School children.  Next year, we'll have more pony books!

New Glarus Dairy Queen Candidate

Hello, my name is Hailey Raymond, and I am thrilled to be running for the 2017-2018 New Glarus Dairy Queen position. I am the daughter of Alishia and James Johnson and Nicole and Ross Raymond. I have five younger siblings, Breanna, Brady, Brooklyn, Richie and Abbigail.
I grew up living in the country. The family dairy farm has had a big impact in my life. I have a passion for showing dairy cattle and working on the farm. I will be a senior next fall at New Glarus High School, where I am an active member in the FFA, serving as the President.

Poppy Poster Awards Presented

Every year, the fifth grade class is invited to make posters about the Legion's national symbol, the poppy. Eileen Henning visits with the class and speaks to them about the required things that should be on the posters. The American Legion Auxiliary must be on them. If they elect to add a cross, they must also add a Star of David. If the flag is added, they must have the correct number of stars and stripes.

^Stepping On^" Falls Prevention"

Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury, hospital admissions for trauma and death. Many older people have had a fall that may have shaken their confidence and may have resulted in an injury.
More than one third of adults, age 65 and older, fall each year. Of those who have fallen, 35 percent have become less active. Preventing falls and regaining confidence is vital in maintaining personal independence.
