Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello Welcomes New Pastor

On Sunday, October 16th, Reverend Lance Smith was installed as the new pastor of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello.  Lance, his wife, Heather, and their sons, Isaac and Zeke, moved to Monticello in August, from Tryon, NC, where he had served as pastor at the Congregational Church.

If you wish to learn more about it, then read the afterword in a book named <i>Agenda 21</i>. It’s at the library and is written by Glenn Beck.

TJ Disch Memorial Cruise

Dear Editor,
A special thank you to the Monticello Fire Department for putting another year together of celebrating the TJ Memorial Cruise.
Also, a special thanks to the surrounding departments who also helped the cruise throughout the day, Orfordville, Milton, Evansville and Belleville Fire Departments.
It’s amazing to see how much support these firefighters and police officers have for one another and for the families in and around their communities.

Memorial Trap Shoot A Success

Dear Editor,
The Monticello Lions Club would like to thank the Monticello and area businesses, as well as the Monticello Lions Club members, for their donations of wonderful raffle prizes to make the First Annual Dan Karlen Memorial Trap Shoot and Gun Raffle such a success. We also would like to especially thank all the club members who helped with the gun raffle by selling the gun raffle tickets.
The winner of the Silver Boy Henry Rifle was John Zuber of Monticello.

Holiday Gift Drive

The Apparitions MC and ABATE Region 8D will be sponsoring a holiday gift drive for Green County foster children from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29, at Shopko, 405 W. 8th St., Monroe.
Acceptable gift donations include educational games, books and toys for elementary-age children, gift cards for teenagers, larger-size diapers and pull-ups for toddlers, craft projects, sports equipment and movies that are appropriate for all ages.

Halloween Fun Day

The New Glarus Jr. FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) will sponsor a Halloween Fun Day, on Friday, October 28, 2016, from <strong>5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.</strong>, at the New Glarus Middle School in the Multi-Purpose Room.
A variety of games in a carnival atmosphere will be played. Games cost between one and two tickets, and tickets may be purchased for 25 cents each.
<strong>A costume contest will be held at 8:00 p.m. </strong>There are three age divisions for the contest, preschool, K-2 and 3-6.

Sugar River Raiders Win Capitol Conference

The Sugar River soccer team traveled to Watertown to face Luther Prep on October 11th, losing 1-2.
After a scoreless first half, Watertown scored two goals late in the second. Sugar River's goal was scored by Eziekel Noriega, at the 86th minute.
Goalkeeper Cole Myers had seven saves.
On October 13th, Sugar River played at Madison Country Day, winning 7-0.

Regional TaeKwonDo Competition

Monroe Martial Arts students competed in a Regional TaeKwonDo Tournament in Fulton, IL, on October 1st, 2016. Competitors were from Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
Our athletes won a total of 15 medals in Forms, Sparring, Board Breaking, and Team Forms. Congratulations to all of these competitors on a job well done. Your hard work and dedication show in the results.
