Swim Team Prepared for Conference Meet

The Monroe/New Glarus swim team ended their regular conference dual season on October 18th against Stoughton. Stoughton won the meet, 92-78.
“The score on the board was not what the girls worked for or hoped for, but just like they have all season long, they swam with pride and tenacity,” commented Coach Linda Moser. “I am so proud of their courage to compete in such a tough conference, knowing 12 of the 19 are new to high school swimming this year. It takes a lot of inner strength to work hard in practice day after day knowing the score won’t show that.”

Maire Earns Trip to State Cross Country Meet

Noelle Maire continued her winning streak at Sectionals Saturday at Fennimore High School. Noelle took first with a time of 19:26, leading by 12 seconds over 2nd place finisher Ciara Kaderly of Albany, solidifying her 4th consecutive trip to State. The girls team ran hard to a top 10 finish! Rounding out the rest of the team was Heidi Wegehaupt (23:49), Kalin O'Rourke (24:52), Eve Palmer (25:07), Rachel Uebelacker (25:31), Alexis Walker (25:32) and Angelina Parisot (25:55).

MedFlight Responds to New Glarus

New Glarus Fire Department set up a Landing Zone for MedFlight in Glarner Park last Wednesday following a medical call after the New Glarus Area EMS and New Glarus Police Department requested their assistance.

No Discussion on Missing Funds in Monticello, Public Hearing for Proposed Budget Set

The Village Board of Monticello met on Wednesday, October 19, 2016.
During the Public Appearances portion of the meeting, Mike Johnson of Green County Development Corp., and Alicia Augsberger, the Monticello Village Attorney, introduced themselves.
Johnson urged the board to continue looking into more economic development. He said that he has had a number of inquiries from businesses looking for “sizable properties.”
The board had a short discussion on the proposed 2017 budget.

NGFD Money Request Approved, Public Budget Hearing Set in New Glarus

The New Glarus Village Board met on October 18, 2016.
Sandy Blum, of the Friends of the Chalet, was in attendance to discuss trustee questions on the Chalet’s 2017 budget request. There were a few changes from the 2016 budget including the purchase of new brochures estimated at $1,000 and pest control estimated at $300.
Following a discussion the board approved the budget request for 2017.
In an earlier meeting, the board had requested that the New Glarus Fire Department attend to discuss the department’s plans for the expansion of the fire station.

Dairyland Donkey Basketball Show Coming to New Glarus

New rodeo stars will be born during the wild and crazy “Dairyland Donkey Basketball Show” at New Glarus Elementary School on Tuesday, November 1st, starting at 7:00 p.m.!
It’s basketball played on real, live donkeys and it will be wilder than a rodeo and funnier than a circus!  All local players will be riding, so come out and see someone you know try to ride a donkey and play basketball at the same time.  It’s a thrill a minute, a spill a minute.  Laugh as you’ve never laughed before at the wild and crazy donkey basketball show!

Halloween Fun Day

The New Glarus Jr. FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) will sponsor a Halloween Fun Day, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., on Friday, October 28, 2016, at the New Glarus Middle School in the Multi-Purpose Room.
A variety of games in a carnival atmosphere will be played. Games cost between one and two tickets, and tickets may be purchased for 25 cents each.
<strong>A costume contest will be held at 8:00 p.m. </strong>There are three age divisions for the contest, preschool, K-2 and 3-6.

NGAEMS to hand out Halloween Treats

Kids are invited to stop by the New Glarus Area EMS while Trick or Treating. The members of the service will be handing out treats! The NGAEMS station is located on the corner of 4th Avenue and 3rd Street.

Annual Native American Indian Artifact Show

Another year has come to a close for the 33rd Annual Native American Indian Artifact Show, held this past weekend at Monticello. The show was very well attended.  There were 81 tables filled with historical to pre-historical artifacts.  Tom Loebel, an archaeologist from Illinois University, was there, cataloging paleo point.  The paleo point was 10 - 15 thousand years old.  People exhibit from Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
