House Fire Destroys Home on Vista Lane, Belleville

On Thursday, May 12, 2016, a fire was reported at home on Vista Lane, south of Bellevile.
Belleville Fire and EMS responded, along with personnel and equipment from New Glarus, Brooklyn, Monticello, Verona, Albany and Mount Horeb Fire Departments, as well as the Green County Sheriff's Department.

Dane County to Utilize Distracted Driving Grant

How often do we attempt to save time by multi-tasking behind the wheel? We eat meals, look at our cell phones, enter an address into a GPS, comb our hair - the list goes on and on. Any activity that takes your attention away from driving is the definition of distracted driving.

Drug Take-Back Makes Big Impact

On Monday, May 2nd, the Dane County Narcotics Task Force and Safe Communities assisted the Wisconsin Department of Justice in a statewide prescription drug take-back program.
The coordinated effort resulted in the collection of 218 boxes of drugs from Dane County. The boxes were collected by members of the Task Force and delivered to a regional drop-off site for proper and safe disposal. The total gross weight of the 218 boxes was estimated at 3805 pounds.

Rollover on STH 69

On Sunday, May 8th, at 2:11 p.m., Dane County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a rollover crash on Highway 69 near Argue Road, in the Town of Montrose.
The driver, James J. Fleischmann, age 61, entered a curve, left the road and then overcorrected, launching his Toyota Corolla off a culvert. He was conveyed by MedFlight to UW Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. His passenger, Carey Fleischmann, age 59, was transported to a local hospital by Belleville EMS. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Fleischmann was cited for inattentive driving.

Two Seriously Injured in Crash

The Green County Sheriff's Department, MedFlight, Argyle Fire Department, Monticello Fire Department, Green County EMS and the Green County Highway Department responded to an accident on CTH J north of CTH C.

New Glarus Vision Children's Book Drive

Join us in our efforts to provide our New Glarus youth with quality books for summer reading. We are looking for age-appropriate books for Pre-K to 2nd graders to be given free of charge to the students at the end of the school year. Please drop your gently used or new book donations at the New Glarus Public Library or the New Glarus Elementary School Office by May 31st.

Wisconsin Frog and Toad Survey Underway on the Lower Sugar River

On April 15th, The Lower Sugar River Watershed Association, along with many members of our new partner the South Central chapter of the Wisconsin Farmers Union, began to survey the frog and toad populations living along the Lower Sugar River. Fourteen volunteers formed two groups to survey 10 sites, beginning at the Decatur Albany wetlands in the north and meandering south through the Avon Bottoms. The survey sites were identified by the Wisconsin Frog and Toad Survey (WTFS).

Knights Baseball Team Records Win Over Mineral Point

The New Glarus baseball team hosted Cambridge on May 3rd, losing to them 7-0.
The game was scoreless until Cambridge scored six runs in the third inning. Their seventh run was scored in the top of the fifth. Jared Carney and Andrew Nimtz shared pitching duties for the Knights. Carney struck out six. Zack Frick was 1-1 for the Knights. John Chenoweth was 2-4.
In the game against Mineral Point on May 5th, New Glarus jumped out to an early lead and easily won, 11-4.

Pony Track Competes in Deerfield Classic

The Monticello Ponies track team participated in the Deerfield Classic on May 6th.
Participating in the boys 800-Meter Run was Sam Allard who finished with a time of 2:52.17. Allard also ran the 1600-Meter Run and finished with a time of 6:33.59. Also participating in the 1600-Meter Run was Austin Koch, finishing with a time of 6:04.17.
In the Long Jump, Cody Garfoot finished with a final of 16-03.50.

Sugar River Girls Win Deerfield Classic

The Sugar River Track Team participated in the Oregon Relays on April 29th.
In the girls 4x100 Relay, the team of Kiara Donnell, Jade Halvensleben and Walela Three-Sticks placed fourth with a time of 54.74.
The team of Logan Fahey, Krista Diaz, Kiara Donnell and Grace Schulting placed third in the 4x200 Relay with a time of 1:54.76.
Coming in at fifth place for Sugar River in the 4x400 Relay was the team of Grace Schulting, Lauren O’Connor, Noelle Maire and Walela Three-Sticks, with a time of 4:45.69.
