Belleville Girls Basketball Grow Their Winning Streak to Six Games

On Friday, December 20th, the Belleville girls basketball team traveled to Albany to take on the Comets. Albany came into the game with a 5 and 2 record, and had been playing good basketball. Belleville came out very focused and jumped out to a 32 to 20 halftime lead. Jenna Shrader hit three 3-pointers in the first half to help the Wildcats. In the second half, both teams came out with tremendous energy and focus leading to a very tight half.

Cuba City Hands Belleville First Loss of Season

The Belleville Wildcats boys basketball team played at Cuba City on Friday, December 20th. Down 21-41 at the half, the Wildcats went on to lose to Cuba City 50-86.
Sawyer Fahey led the team with 15 points, while Trevor Syse scored 13 points and Kody Fahey scored 6 points.
The Wildcats play at Platteville High School against Wauzeka-Steuben on December 27th, and against Platteville on December 28th before heading to Monticello to face the Ponies on January 6th.

Cheesemakers Hockey Improves to 8-1

On December 19th, the Monroe Cheesemakers co-op hockey team hosted Stoughton at SLICE Arena. The Cheesemakers jumped out to an early lead and won the game, 10-4.
Thirty-seven seconds into the game, Cooper Dreyfus, assisted by Cade Janecke and Hayden Roth, scored the first goal for the team. Shortly thereafter, Janecke, assisted by Jared Dillon and Payton Stauffacher, scored on a power play. Dillon, assisted by Roth and Janecke, then Janecke, and then Stauffacher, assisted by Dreyfus and Dillon, rounded out the scoring in the first period.

Sugar River Raider Wrestling News

The Sugar River wrestling team hosted a dual against Verona Area High School on Thursday, December 19th. The final score was Verona 42, Sugar River 36.
Samantha Peterson (113 lbs) lost to Blake Herburger.
Alonso Vega (126 lbs) won over Sean Parry.
Joe Quaglia (132 lbs) won over Ben Grandau.
Brian Hollis (138 lbs) won over Logan Neuroth.
Avery Lettman (145 lbs) lost to Cael Wozniak.
Brycen Schuhmacher (152 lbs) won over Atticus Marse.
Robert Chenoweth (160 lbs) won over Spencer Lokken.
Patrick Samon (182 lbs) lost to Caden Page.

Hardwood Trees for Planting Spring 2020

The Green County Land & Water Conservation Department is offering nine varieties of trees and two varieties of shrubs for landowners interested in planting next spring. The tree varieties are Bur Oak, Red Oak, White Oak, Swamp White Oak, Sugar Maple, Shagbark Hickory, American Plum, White Pine, and Norway Spruce. Shrubs available are Serviceberry and Black Currant. The trees and shrubs are bare root, and range in height between 1’-4’ depending on species. The cost is $20.00 for a bundle of 10, and must be ordered in increments of 10.

Lady Knights Win Over Palmyra-Eagle

On Thursday, December 19th, the New Glarus Lady Knights played at home against Palmyra-Eagle. New Glarus led at the half, 38-9, and cruised to a 70-22 victory.
Senior Lily Himmelmann set the tone on offense early and often, with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jaylynn Benson added 17 points and six assists. Shealyn Klosterman-Havens played tenacious defense and finished the night with nine steals and 10 points. Ellie Eichelkraut contributed 8 points and four rebounds. Emma Marty hit two 3s for 6 points.

Knights Trample Barneveld

The New Glarus Knights hosted Barneveld on Monday, December 16th. The Knights held a commanding lead at the half, 49-12, and went on to easily win the game. The final score was New Glarus 80, Barneveld 38.
Leading the Knights in scoring with 17 points each were Connor Siegenthaler and Garrett James. Siegenthaler sunk five 3-pointers while James hit four. Carter Siegenthaler scored 15 points, which included three 3-pointers.
The team played at Darlington on December 20th, and will play at Monroe on December 27th and will host Platteville on January 3rd.

Lady Ponies Can't Hold On Against Barneveld

The Monticello Lady Ponies played host to Barneveld on December 17th. Behind by 7 points at the half, the Ponies battled back and outscored the Lady Eagles during the second half but couldn’t overcome the first half deficit. The final score was Monticello 41, Barneveld 44.
Harley Disch scored 13 points to lead the Ponies, while Mackie Errthum scored 10 points and Miah Brokopp scored 6 points.

Monticello Boys Now Ranked Eighth in Division 5

The Monticello Ponies jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the game against Juda on December 19th, but Juda came back with an 11-3 run to tie the game at 17 with seven minutes left in the first. The Ponies and the Panthers battled back and forth for the rest of the half, each scoring 6 points to end the first half in a 23-23 tie.
Coming back out after halftime, Monticello opened the second half with an 8-0 run and the Panthers couldn't catch back up the rest of the game. Monticello won the game, 56-39.
