UW-Extension Dairy Management Seminar

The Green County Milk Quality Council, in cooperation with UW-Extension, will be sponsoring its 29th Annual Green County Dairy Management Seminar on Thursday, January 5, 2017. The seminar will run from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and will be held at the Green County UW-Extension Office, 2841 6th Street, Monroe.

Sugar River Euchre

Would it be Kleeman's or Norsk Golf Bowl to open an early Christmas present on December 22? The prize, an opportunity to play in the 86th Sugar River Euchre League Championship Match at the end of the season. With both teams losing only two matches in the first half of the season, a playoff match was needed to determine the winner of the first half.

Avalanche Lose Close Game to Milton

The Monroe Avalanche Co-op hockey team played against Milton on Tuesday, December 20th, losing by just one goal. The final score was Milton 3, Monroe 2.
Coach Josh Smith commented, “We played a really close game today and things were looking good, but in the end penalties killed us. When you spend that much time in the box it’s hard to win. We know what we need to do and will start addressing it tomorrow at practice.”

Raiders Drop Dual to Horicon

The Sugar River Raider wrestling team traveled to Horicon on December 22nd for a dual, losing to Horicon, 24-38.
Wrestling in the 113 lb weight class, Sugar River’s Lucas Fink won over Chance Tuttle.
In the 120 lb weight class, Robert Chenoweth lost to Horicon’s Isaac Dickenson.
Wrestling at 126 lbs, Sugar River’s Justin Knoebl lost to Marshall Coffey.
Sugar River’s Max Gerner, wrestling at 132 lbs, won over Mike Zamorano.
In the 138 lb weight class, Sugar River’s John Chenoweth lost to Bill Condon.

Columbus Beats New Glarus

The New Glarus Knights boys basketball team hosted the Columbus Cardinals on Thursday, December 22nd, losing to the visiting team after being down by 10 at the half. The final score was Columbus 79, New Glarus 64.
Cullen Brooks led the team in scoring with 21 points. Putting 17 points on the board was Jaden Kreklow and Trevor Gassman scored 9 points.
The Knights play their next two games at home. They hosted Monroe on December 27th and will play Darlington at 7:30 p.m., on January 3rd.

Monticello Sports Boosters 2017 Alumni Tournament

The Monticello Sports Boosters Alumni Tournament will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, beginning at 10:00 a.m., in the gyms at the school.
There will be Men’s 6-on-6 Basketball and Women’s 6-on-6 Volleyball. The entry fee is $75.00 per team and you are guaranteed two games. A concession stand will be available.

Lodi Defeats Belleville

The Belleville boys basketball team hosted Lodi on December 22nd, and lost. The final score was Lodi 56, Belleville 39.
After trailing by 13 at halftime, Belleville scored 22 points in the second half but were outscored by Lodi.
Dalton Fahey led the Wildcats with 8 points. Eric O’Connor and Drew Shrader scored 6 points each.
On December 29th, the team travels to Parkview to play a game that begins at 5:30 p.m., and will play at Lakeside Lutheran on January 3rd to make up a game that was postponed on December 16th due to weather.

Monticello 2016 In Review: January - April

<strong>January </strong>
The Monticello Lions and Lionesses held their Christmas Party at The Dining Room. They collected 124 pounds of food and donated $495.00 made from their raffle held at the Christmas Party to Green Cares Food Pantry. Green Cares served 257 families (792 adults and children) during November 2016. This is an ongoing project, helping to feed hungry families in Green County.

Lucius Andrew Evenson Jr., age 90, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015. He was born on August 20, 1925, at Appleton, WI, to his parents, Lucius and Anna (Saegert) Evenson.

Janet Virginia Babler, age 83 of Belleville, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016. She was born on June 1, 1932, in Madison, WI, to her parents, Norman and Janet (Baldwin) Buss.

Monticello Lions Distribute Holiday Baskets

On December 23rd, the Monticello Lions distributed Holiday Baskets to 10 families in the Monticello area. These baskets included a complete ham dinner, plus many extras. We are very happy to be able to do this and support our community any way possible.
