Leafspeak

Hello world. I am a leaf. Not just any leaf - I AM A MAPLE LEAF! No need to brag. After all, I am the lone symbol of an entire nation. Heck, there’s even a hockey team named after me. No other leaf in the woods can make such claims. When I turn color my beauty is special beyond words...from tip to tip shades of red, yellow, auburn and orange - a palette of colors which can only be found in nature, i.e. me. (Dare I say that my friends, the Oaks, remain “green with envy”?)

Autumn ^Arbor Day^" Celebrated in New Glarus"

New Glarus celebrated its twenty-fifth annual Arbor Day tree planting on Friday, September 24. This year's tree planting was a little different than the past 24 years. Due to COVID-19, the annual spring tree planting effort was postponed until this fall. Adult volunteers and New Glarus High School students, under the direction of Hanna Kearns, joined Village Forester Paul Jennrich in planting trees throughout the village. The Village Public Works Department assisted by pre-digging planting sites and helping with the overall planting effort.

Zwingli Brotherhood BBQ Pork Dinner

There is a great debate going on at Zwingli Brotherhood meetings. Where is the best BBQ? Bruce Workman, being from Texas, he says, “Texas is the place for smoked meats! If it is BBQ, it has to be from Texas.”
Pastor Lance has a very different perspective. Living in the mountains of NC for 35 years, he states, “For perfect BBQ, you have to go with Western NC style pulled pork.”

Duppler-Smith Post #460 American Legion to Hold Raffle

Duppler-Smith Post #460 American Legion in Belleville has made the decision for the second year in a row not to hold our yearly Feather Party/Bingo in November. The Delta variant for COVID poses too much risk to ask people to attend in our building. We would also like to give the local businesses another year to recover economically from the hardship of the Pandemic.
