Donations Needed for New Glarus Police Department's Community Relations Fund

It’s that time of year again where the New Glarus Police Department puts out our general request to the public and businesses to seek monetary donations for the New Glarus Police Department’s Community Relations Fund. The police department is continually striving to keep proactive with the community and the youth of New Glarus. Without monetary donations from the public, it would be difficult to be as successful and involved in community events as we have been in the past. Below describes some of the ways we spend the donation money to help with interacting with the community.

A Reminder From the New Glarus Police Department

Alternate Side Winter Parking began on November 15, 2017, and ends March 31, 2018. This requires anyone parking a vehicle on a village street to park on the even side of the street on even days and the odd side of the street on odd days, which is enforced between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. This means you should park on the side of the street where houses have even numbers on the even days and vice versa.

Green County Piano Play-a-Thon

The Green County Piano Teachers will be sponsoring a Piano Play-A-Thon on Saturday, December 2, 2017, from 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., at ShopKo in Monroe. This event will feature more than 100 students from the Green County area playing a variety of holiday music.
The students are collecting pledges for this event and the money raised will be donated to the Monroe Arts Center (to be used for the cost of restringing the grand piano in the auditorium), the Green County libraries, and the 2018 Green County Ensemble Recital.

Village of New Glarus 2018 Garbage/Recycling News

The Village of New Glarus will be changing garbage/recycling haulers starting in January of 2018. Due to cost efficiencies, the Village will switch from our current provider, Advanced Disposal, to Pellitteri Waste System. <strong>With this change in providers come a change in the weekly pickup date from Friday to Monday as well as a switch to automated pick-up of both trash and recycling. </strong> Pelletteri Waste Systems will be delivering the new trash carts beginning December 13th. Residents will continue to use their current recycling carts.

Street Trees Available to New Glarus Residents

Village of New Glarus property owners interested in getting new terrace trees are invited to participate in the village’s 22nd Annual Arbor Day Tree Planting. Plans are now under way for this spring’s planting, which will occur in early May.

The New Glarus Youth Committee invites you to Lunch With Santa on Saturday, December 9, 2017, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., at the New Glarus Elementary School. Please enter at the rear or outside door to cafeteria.
Enjoy lunch, crafts, a photo with Santa and a goody bag, all for $4.00 per person.

Village of New Glarus Nomination Procedure For Running For Village Offices

Candidates for local office in the Village of New Glarus can begin circulating Nomination Papers on <strong>December 1, 2017</strong>. The Spring Election will have three Trustee positions up for election. Incumbents whose terms end in 2018 are: Trustees Greg Thoemke, Petra Streiff and Denise Anton Wright.

New Glarus and Monticello Cub and Boy Scout Drive

The New Glarus and Monticello Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts are holding a Food Drive for Green Cares Food Pantry and new and gently used toys for Green County children in need. <strong>The drive will go through November 30, 2017.</strong>
In New Glarus, you may donate at Roy’s Market, UB&T-New Glarus and the New Glarus Village Hall. In Monticello you may donate at Gempeler’s Supermarket, Greenwoods State Bank and the Monticello Village Hall.

Monticello Christmas Stocking Fund

As the holidays approach, we want to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has so generously supported Monticello’s Christmas Stocking Fund. The Christmas Stocking Fund is fortunate to have received monetary gifts and donations from many individuals and organizations throughout the year. The community’s support of the Christmas Stocking Fund is truly remarkable - it is yet another reason why Monticello is such a great place to live!

Monticello Track and Field Raising Money for New Record Display

The Monticello Track and Field program is seeking monetary donations to cover the cost of placing a new record display in the Elmer Lemon Gymnasium. The total cost for this project is $1,746.00.
If you would be interested in helping with this project, please send your monetary donations to the following address: Monticello Schools, Attention Coach Brian Butzler, 334 S. Main St., Monticello, WI 53570. Our goal is to have the funds by December of 2017, and have an unveiling at our homecoming basketball game in January 2018.
