Members of the Sugar River Track Team competed in Whitewater on Thursday, June 17th, in the WIAA D2 Sectionals. The top four finishers in each event move on to the State meet in La Crosse on Friday.
“After a rain delay, athletes went out to complete their events. Unfortunately, the cards were not in their hands,” said Coach Willy Johnson. “Ava Foley finished 5th in the long jump while breaking her own school record this year in a jump of 17’ 1.5”. She missed out of advancing to the State meet by a mere 2.5 inches.”
Carter Scholey, who placed third in the 3200M Run, is advancing to state in that event, and the Boys 4x800M Relay team, consisting of Conor McCoy, Thomas Nelson, Matthew Loshaw, and Carter Scholey, is also advancing with their second place finish in the event.
“The other athletes who competed did very well and their efforts during the season didn’t go unnoticed,” said Johnson. “There were some exceptional performances today and the coaching staff is extremely proud of them.”
