Sugar River Bombers 12U Softball Team Wins the 2022 Midwest Slugfest Championship in Beloit

This 12U Sugar River Bombers team proved its resilience this weekend. The girls were winless in pool play and entered the championship bracket seeded dead last in this double elimination tournament.
The Bombers opened bracket play beating the Rockford Shamrocks 10-6, and advanced to play the number one seeded Huntley Red Raiders. Tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, these teams battled three extra innings. The Bombers erupted with six runs in the top of the ninth inning to clinch the upset.
The Bombers next faced the CTW Crush Title Wave (Crystal Lake, IL) who was also unbeaten in pool play. The Bombers' bats could not wake up and they were shut out 6-0, forcing them into the losers bracket.
The Bombers next won a rematch 7-1 against the Rockford Shamrocks, giving them a berth to the championship game where they again faced CTW.
The Bombers fate looked dire as CTW entered the top of the 5th with a 4-0 lead. Down, but not out, Sugar River was able to chip away at the lead nabbing three runs in the 5th and grabbed two runs in the 6th taking the lead, 5-4. CTW went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the sixth as time expired completing the epic championship comeback.
