Seven Sugar River Youth Wrestlers Place at State Tournament

On Friday, March 22nd, 10 of the 13 Sugar River youth wrestlers took to the mats at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. It was a HUGE DAY for the boys and coaches, as six came home placing in the TOP 5 or better in their corresponding 16 man brackets! Here are results of boys: Zecheriah Bair, 4x qualifier, wrestled at 63# and unfortunately lost both matches right away and was done for day. Blake Endres, 67# 3x qualifier, came away with 5th place going 4-2 for his day. Mason Mau, 82# 1st TIME qualifier, went 4-2 for the day bringing home 5th place proudly. Trei Udelhoven, 82# 4x place finisher, wrestled tough for a 4th place finish going 3-2 in his day. Cayson Helwig, 92# first time qualifier, wrestled tough going 2-2 for the day. Eli Leonard, 94# 3x place finisher, went 4-2 for his day wrestling to 5th place. Aiden Hatleberg, 100# 2x qualifier, had an exciting fight to the FINALS winning two overtime matches to get there and went 3-1 bringing home a proud 2nd Place! Ryker Swenson, 110# first time qualifier, had an unfortunate thing happen at the end of his first match, strained ligaments confirmed by medical staff pulling him from the rest of the tournament. Alex Zielinski, 130# 4x qualifier, brought home 5th place winning four of his six matches. Garrett Pauli, 150# 3x qualifier, went 1-2 for his day. Great first day boys!!
Going back for the second day of wrestling, we had three boys competing with one bringing home a TOP 5 finish! Here are the results: Kyan Lentz, 48# first time 2nd grader, went 1-2 and had a great experience just getting there! Josh Bair, 72# first time qualifier, wrestled tough to 5th place going 3-2 for the day. And lastly, 145# first time qualifier Carson Loshaw went 1-2, enjoying his first appearance at Youth State Wrestling!
So proud of these 13 boys over two days of wrestling and bringing home seven top 5 place winners. As a team, Sugar River racked up a whopping 99 points! Amazing...quite an end to a long, hard fought season.
