With the 2024-2025 school year off to a great start and Wisconsin School Board Week upon us, it is a great opportunity to get to know the board members who serve the Belleville schools a little bit better.  The Belleville learning community is aided by these seven board members who meet monthly – Katie Woehrle (President); Tony Schmit (Vice President); Marion Viney (Clerk); Alan Charles (Treasurer); Ryan Kubly; Margaret “Meg” Anthony; and, Beth Yurs.  All seven members have dedicated their time to helping Belleville’s schools provide the best education possible for their students.

The “why” behind each member’s reason for running for the school board is similar.  Board members were asked the question:  Why did you want to become a School Board member?  Their core answers all resonate around the same theme – to serve and support the Belleville schools.  In short, all of them enjoy giving back to their community.

School Board President Katie Woehrle says, “Once my boys were old enough to start school, I wanted to learn more about the curriculum content and how it’s delivered.  I’ve been so impressed with how friendly and thoughtful the staff are in the district, and I want to help create an environment in which their passion is recognized and they’re empowered to do their best work for our kids.  I love the idea of finding creative ways for our district to shine as Belleville continues to welcome new families and children as well!”

Providing support and a team of caring community members to help Belleville’s schools achieve their goals is something that the school board provides.  The board is committed to the schools it serves.  It offers guidance in strategic initiatives; as well as a sounding board for key decisions the school district needs to make.

“I love this community and genuinely love to help.  Simple as that,” emphasizes Vice President Tony Schmit.

Others like Kubly and Viney bring years of experience to their commitment as a Belleville School Board member.

Clerk Viney notes, “I covered other school district board meetings for local newspapers and enjoyed learning the role of school board members, staff, and administration.  I also was involved in many organizations in Belleville including the Belleville Parent-Teacher Organization, Chamber of Commerce, Community Club, KIWANIS, Belleville Area Historical Society, etc.  I wanted to focus on making a difference for students, staff, and the community.”

Whether school board members in Belleville have served for many years, or were just recently elected like Beth Yurs, their hearts are in the right place.  Through their service, Belleville continues to strive for great success and is recognized for its efforts as it gives its students educational opportunities that will shape their futures.

Board member Yurs notes, “Investing in our schools ensures that the community can thrive for years to come.”

School board member Margaret “Meg” Anthony chose to live in Belleville due to the schools’ positive results.

Anthony reflects, “My family settled in Belleville in large part because of the positive reputation of the schools.  We have continued to be impressed with the small class sizes, engagement level of staff and administrators, and variety of classes and extracurricular opportunities offered.”

Choosing to make a home in a small town like Belleville gives many opportunities for its citizens to help shape the community they live in.  Serving on the Belleville School Board offers these seven representatives an additional place to serve and support Belleville’s learning community in a positive way.
