Revised New Glarus Road Closures during Tour of Little Switzerland Bicycle Races

The Brazen Dropouts Cycling Team out of Madison is hosting their second annual New Glarus Road Race event on Saturday, July 29, and Sunday, July 30, called the Tour of Little Switzerland. The event is expected to bring more than 200-300 visitors to the community to compete in and observe the races. The Tour of Little Switzerland includes both a time trial race and road race on Saturday, July 29th, and a downtown road race on Sunday, July 30th. Saturday, July 29th - The Time Trial and Road Race on Saturday will impact the following areas (roads will remain open, with event marshals at various intersections to direct traffic):
Time Trail Race Route: Race starts at Valle Tell Soccer Park, travels east along Kubly Road, south on Argue Road, west on Airport Road, and north on Elmer Road back to Valle Tell Soccer Park. The races are expected to impact these roads from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Road Race Route: Race starts at New Glarus Middle School, and heads south along 2nd Street to County Highway H, south along County Highway N, west along Dividing Ridge Road, north along County Highway J, and east along County Highway H, south on Disch Road, and north on Meadow Valley Road. The races are expected to impact these roads from approximately 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Sunday, July 30th - The Downtown Race, called a Criterium, will close the following streets on Sunday:
2nd Street (between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue), 2nd Avenue (between 2nd Street and 6th Street), 6th Street (between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue), and 3rd Avenue (between 6th Street and 2nd Street) from approximately 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
The above route reflects a change from the previously noted route of 3rd Avenue to 2nd Street to 4th Avenue to 3rd Street to 5th Avenue to 5th Street. Residents along 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue will not be impacted by the new route.
To ensure the safety of the racers, spectators, and residents, the event organizers are kindly asking those residents who live within the course area to please park their vehicles outside the course. Race officials will work with the Police Department to provide traffic direction during the race event.
Visitors to the New Glarus Home or New Glarus Lodge should utilize the alternative route of 6th Avenue (west) to Durst Road (north) to 3rd Avenue (west) to access either the New Glarus Home or Lodge facilities.
