Raiders Remain Undefeated in Conference

On May 12, on a night that honored parents and teachers, the Raiders were dominate in a game against Capital Conference opponent Lakeside Lutheran. Showcasing their intensity, speed, attacking offense and shutdown defense, the Raiders put on a show for the fans scoring nine goals and securing the team's eighth shutout of the season. Scoring two goals each for the Raiders were Hannah Donlin, Taylor Legler and Vanessa Narveson. Adding to the Raider score with a goal apiece were Kendell Goecke, Brooke Larson and Jamie Ott. Final: Sugar River 9, Lakeside Lutheran 0.
On May 16, the Raiders hosted the 10th Annual Swiss Kick Tournament in New Glarus. The tournament atmosphere was festive, with Swiss Yodelers singing the American and Swiss National Anthems and young players from the youth leagues accompanying the Raiders in the team line up. In the first game, the Raiders played Delevan-Darien. Creating many scoring opportunities with excellent ball possession, the Raiders pressured Delevan-Darien throughout the match. Vanessa Narveson, leading scoring for the Raiders, added three scores to her season tally of 19 goals while Kendell Goecke, Breanne Kreklow and Taylor Legler each added a goal to the final score. The defense held strong securing the victory. Final score: Sugar River 6, Delevan-Darien 1.
The final game of the Swiss Kick Tournament had the Raiders in a match with Monona Grove, who leads the Badger South Division 2 Conference and has a player ranked 7th in the state for goals scored. The Raiders were tested having concluded their first game of the tournament less than an hour before the start of this game in hot and humid weather. Monona Grove brought intense pressure and attacks on goal but the Raiders showed their ability to play at this level. Vanessa Narveson scored for the Raiders with a dazzling header off a perfect cross by Aimee Sies. It was not the result the Raiders wanted but they should be proud of a strong performance against excellent competition under difficult circumstances. Final: Monona Grove 3, Sugar River 1.
The Raiders' final game of the season will be held in Belleville on Thursday, May 28, with JV action beginning at 5:00 p.m., and Varsity following at 7:00 p.m. In a much anticipated match that could determine who will win the Capital Conference, the Raiders will face a fierce rival in the Lodi Blue Devils.
