The Monticello Ponies played at Albany on January 25th. Monticello jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first four minutes, and while Albany chipped away at Monticello’s lead in the first and came within 1-point with less than four minutes left in the first, Monticello came back and scored six points to take a 22-15 lead at the break. Albany could get no closer than 4-points in the second half and with 16:07 left in the game, Braden Gafner hit two 3-pointers in less than a minute and Monticello stretched their lead to 20 with four minutes left. The Comets went on an 11-4 run but the Ponies persevered and won the game. The final score was Monticello 53, Albany 40.
Reece Rufer led Monticello with 17 points and four rebounds. Jon Errthum scored 15 points and Braden Gafner scored 10 points while Jeffery Ace pulled down four rebounds.
The Ponies are 3-3 in Six Rivers East and 6-7 overall. They played at Black Hawk on January 30th and will play a Six Rivers Crossover game at Benton on February 2nd before hosting Belleville on February 6th.
