New Glarus Woman Faces Felony Charges

On Monday, August 21, 2017, Mary S. Way, 59, New Glarus, was arrested and charged with one count of Felony Theft – Business Setting (less than $2,500-$5,000), two counts of Felony Theft – Business Setting (Over $10,000), and three counts of Felony Identity Theft – Financial Gain after a one-year investigation.
In August of 2016, the New Glarus Police Department received information from Green County Human Services regarding an alleged theft of money spanning several years from an elderly victim residing in the Village of New Glarus by their Power of Attorney.
The suspect, Mary S. Way, was allegedly failing to make the victim's health care payments. Upon investigation by Green County Human Services, it was determined that Way was not making any of the victim's health care payments and was instead taking the victim's money for personal gain. This included her mortgage payments, utility payments, cash payments and other personal items which were not related to the victim's care and well-being.
Based on the information which was compiled during the investigation, Way was arrested and charged in Green County Circuit Court for the above charges. She was released on a $15,000 signature bond and ordered to have no contact with the victim or their place of residence. Way may also not possess any financial instruments or any cards issued in any other person or entity's name. A preliminary hearing in the case will be held on September 22, 2017, before Judge Thomas J. Vale.
