New Glarus Village Board Candidate - Tammy Newberry

Age: 50
Occupation: Activities Coordinator
Years lived in Village: 28
Incumbent: Yes
Have you been on the village board or held any other public office before? If so, please describe: I volunteered to fill an open board position in June 2019. I was appointed at that time.
Why are you running for village board? I feel everyone has a responsibility to serve the community at some point in life. This opportunity was presented to me and I felt I had the time. I am running again so that another vacancy will not occur on the board and because it is important to have many citizens active and represented in government.
What issues do you find most important to the village board? List your top three priorities: Affordable living and taxes: New Glarus is a small village with amazing opportunities and people. We must balance our amenities realistically. Continue to improve our water and electrical utilities: These are taken for granted and need improvements. This is being addressed currently. Continue to supervise and provide for our emergency services: We are very fortunate with these and we need to be sure they have what they need.
If you could reverse one village action, what would that be? I am not a person to second guess previous decisions or commitments. I will work forward as need be. If an old issue arises, I will seek current opinions and financial information and apply that with consideration for future outcomes.
Any additional comments? I would like to ask that others consider serving the community in any way. Opinions are important but taking the time to listen, weigh and act on group decisions or give your time and talent is how society will thrive.
