Monroe/New Glarus Swim News

It was a day of so close. The girls swam well and posted 16 PRs, but we were just shy of those times needed to capture one of the top 12 times in the state in Division 2 in order to swim at the state meet. (The winner at each sectional for each event is an automatic state qualifier so that leaves 12 spots which means the top 12 times in the state go.)
The Medley Relay with a PR of 1:56.49 was the 18th fastest, along with the 200-Free Relay, with a PR time of 1:44.33. The 200-Free Relay shaved 4 seconds off their seed time. The 400-Relay also shaved 4 seconds off their time, but ended up 19th in the state for D2.  The 400-Relay time of 3:54.02 I have not seen in over six years, along with the 200-Free relay, which missed the team record by a second! Those are huge accomplishments!
Madelyn Hammer missed 100 Breaststroke by placing 17th in the state. Her time was in the top 16, but if you get first place at a sectional you are an automatic state qualifier no matter what your time is and that is what happened to Maddie. A swimmer at the Cudhay sectional won with a time slower than Maddie’s, but the Cudhay sectional winner automatically goes, which pushed Maddie to the 17th spot.
Swimming in the 200-Yard Medley Relay was the team of Grace Keith, Madelyn Hammer, Anna Wolf and Abby Oudinot, with a final time of 1:56.49.
Skylar Lassen participated in the 200-Yard Freestyle, with a time of 2:03.12.
Nina Schiro (2:27.19) and Anna Wolf (2:29.80) both swam in the 200-Yard IM.
The 50-Yard Freestyle had five Monroe/New Glarus girls swimming. Abby Oudinot finished with a time of 25.53, Emily Meritt finished in 28.31, with three teammates right behind her: Samantha Ellefson finishing in 28.35, Grace Moehn with a time of 28.44 and Anna Meritt finished in 28.47.
In the 100-Yard Butterfly, Anna Wolf finished with a time of 1:06.26 and Grace Keith finished right behind her, with a time of 1:06.53.
The 100-Yard Freestyle had four Monroe/New Glarus participants, with Madelyn Hammer finishing with a time of 55.86, Anna Meritt coming in at 1:02.26, Emily Meritt with 1:05.02, and Samantha Ellefson finishing in 1:05.13.
Grace Moehn swam the 500-Yard Freestyle in 6:21.99.
The team of Abby Oudinot, Skylar Lassen, Grace Keith and Madelyn Hammer participated in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay finishing with a time of 1:44.33.
In the 100-Yard Backstroke, Skylar Lassen recorded a time of 1:02.90 and Nina Schiro finished in 1:06.45.
Madelyn Hammer represented Monroe/New Glarus in the 100-Yard Breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:10.52.
The 400-Yard Freestyle Relay was finished in a time of 3:54.02 by the team of Abby Oudinot, Anna Wolf, Skylar Lassen and Grace Keith.
There were tears as they had to let go of that goal of state, but then the realization came of what amazing things they accomplished this year as a team. They won three conference duals, along with two non-conference duals.....something that hasn’t been achieved in the last six years. They placed better at every invitational they went to this year than last year. Their Conference finish was better than it has been in over six years, they finished ahead of where they finished last year at sectionals, they scored more total points at all their meets this year. They did these things and more with only 13 girls! We are the smallest team in our conference and at our sectionals. I am so proud of all that they accomplished this season and how hard they worked to keep moving forward! It was a great season, full of hard work, fun and memories!
