Line of Decency Has Been Crossed

Dear Editor,
I thought for a while that our little corner of the planet could avoid the killing fields of 21st century American politics. Sadly, I was wrong.
Remember a letter to the editor in which one candidate is described as a family man and the other as having no wife and no children? Vague? Not really. I see no relevance of that reference to the issues the voters to need consider. So what its purpose?
When political discussion turns to nullification of someone for their choice of whom they chose to love then a line has been crossed: the line of decency. That is a shameful use of the open discussion we seek.
Gof Thomson,
New Glarus
