The Belleville girls basketball team hosted Lodi on Tuesday, December 22nd. Coach Kerry Steinagel had this to say, “We started out the game with a 18-9 lead in the first half, with great passing and hitting some timely shots. We were a little suspect on defense in the first half as we had a couple of girls get into foul trouble. The half ended with the game being close.” Belleville was up by just 6 points at the half, 26 to Lodi’s 20.
“The second half started with Lodi scoring two baskets right away to cut the lead to 2. We settled down and hit a couple of timely shots. During this run we extended the lead to 9, with a timely three-pointer by Aimee Sies, and a lay up by Lucy Grady off an inbound play. Again, we got into a little foul trouble and we took a couple of quick shots. Lodi again was able to cut the lead back down to 1. We again got a jumper from Krista Diaz, off a pass from Tara Hanna. Also during this time Tara Hanna got an offensive rebound and a put back to get the lead back to 4. We hit a couple of free throws at the end of the game to ice it. The girls worked hard and the best thing about this game is we had 7 players score at least 4 points,” said Steinagel.
The final score of the game was Belleville 55, Lodi 48.
Tara Hanna led the Wildcats with 15 points, nine rebounds, five steals and three assists. Grace Shulting put 9 points on the board and had four steals and four assists. Krista Diaz scored 8 points and had three steals and one block.
High scorers for the Blue Devils included Alana Gilles with 13 points, Rhianna Walzer with 10 points and Syke Baron with 9 points.
Belleville sits at 4-4 in the Capitol South and headed to Orfordville on Tuesday, December 29th to face the Parkview Vikings.
