On April 26th, the New Glarus softball team hosted Cambridge, losing 8-16.
Both teams came out with bats swinging in the first inning. Cambridge scored two runs and New Glarus followed up with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first.
Cambridge scored another four runs in the second inning. The Knights scored two more runs in the second and third innings. In the sixth inning, Cambridge added another two runs to their score. New Glarus came back in the bottom of the seventh to score three runs, tying the score at 8-8. However, Cambridge scored eight runs in the top of the ninth to secure their win.
Riley Parker and Jessica Van Dusen shared pitching duties during the game.
Lydia Sprecher was 2-5 at bat, scoring two runs and had one RBI. Grace Moen was 1-6 at bat and scored one run. Ashley Judd was 2-4 at bat, with one run and three RBIs. Maya Kramer, Jessica Van Dusen, Madison Perkins and Nikki Bushee all scored one run apiece.
New Glarus traveled to Wisconsin Heights on April 28th. They won a close game, 4-3.
The Knights scored two runs in the first two innings. In the fourth inning, Wisconsin Heights sent a runner across home plate. With their lead in jeopardy, New Glarus scored another two runs in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 4-1. Grace Moen’s double brought Kelly Fredrickson home, and Lydia Sprecher’s single allowed Moen to score. Wisconsin Heights attempted to tie the score up in the bottom of the fifth, but were only able to score two runs.
Riley Parker pitched the entire game for the Knights, striking out five with 19 first pitch strikes.
Grace Moen was 2-4 at bat, with two runs scored and one RBI. Lydia Sprecher was 1-3, with one RBI. Kelly Fredrickson went 2-1, and scored two runs.
New Glarus played at Marshall on April 29th and hosted Lodi on May 3rd. They’ll play at home against Belleville on May 5th.
