Do you want to experience what life was like in the 19th century in New Glarus? Then join us at the Swiss Historical Village & Museum on Sunday, October 10th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., for our annual Harvest Fest. We will have a variety of demonstrations of pioneer skills, including cheese making, quilting, blacksmithing, basket making, beekeeping, rope making and more. Enjoy special performances by the Maennerchor (11:30 a.m.) and Jodlerklub (1:00 p.m.), and take a stroll through the 14 buildings that comprise the Swiss Historical Village. A special reduced admission of $5 for adults and $3 for children will be charged during Harvest Fest.
The museum will also be hosting two author visits during Harvest Fest. Carol Schowalter, author of My Grandparents, My Idols, Carl and Verena Marty, will be signing books in the museum gift shop. And Madison author Jesse Brookstein will be selling and signing copies of his newest book, A Perfect Pair: The History of the Landjaeger in Green County, Wisconsin. Be sure to stop by the Ruef's Meat booth to enjoy locally made landjaegers and brats!
Round out your visit to New Glarus by taking a tour of the Chalet of the Golden Fleece museum. They'll be offering a discounted $5 admission fee on Sunday, October 10th only. Hop on the Mr. Leo Woolever's quaint horse-drawn wagon for a free ride between the two museums.
Owned and operated by the non-profit New Glarus Historical Society, the Swiss Historical Village & Museum is located at 612 7th Avenue. Please visit our website at http://www.swisshistoricalvillage.org. Many thanks to all the volunteers who make this annual event such a success.
