Fall Garage Sales and the Taste of Monticello

Despite the weather, Monticello was a busy place to be the weekend of September 8-10. Our annual community garage sales took place Thursday through Saturday. This year we had 31 categorized garage sales on the map to help you find great treasures. 4-H held their annual Bake Sale on Friday and Saturday at the Lion’s Shelter House, along with the Monticello Historical Society’s annual sale.
The Taste of Monticello offered wonderful specials from many of our local establishments. This year we moved the Chili Cook Off to Saturday’s line up, with the “Taste of Monticello.” The chili tasting was offered at seven businesses on Main Street, with nine chilies to taste, with bragging rights to the voted winner. It only cost $5.00 per voting ballot, which three lucky winners returned for their names to be drawn for $10, $20 and $30 in Monticello Money. This year’s Chili Cook off winners were: 1st Place, Luckys Farm Tavern; 2nd Place, Rathskeller; 3rd Place, The Boar’s Nest.
We look forward to continuing to build these community events for your enjoyment. Mark your calendar for next year’s fall sales, held the second weekend in September.
