Richard Rufer
Age: 54
Occupation: Washington Mill/Monticello School Bus Driver
Years lived in town: All
Incumbent? Yes
Have you been on the town board or held any other public office before? If so please describe: Land Planning Commission, Land Planning Commission Chair, 2nd Supervisor, Town Chair, Wisconsin Towns Association Vice Chair Green County Unit.
Why are you running for town board? I would like to see the Township grow in an orderly manner. Currently working on Town’s Comprehensive Plan Update. A replacement snowplow truck is scheduled to be in service for the 2019-2020 winter, replacing a 1986 truck. Completed a bridge replacement on Disch Road in 2018. Updated an engine for the Monticello Fire Department, put into service in 2019.
What issues do you find most important to the town board? List your top three priorities: Road maintenance – limited funds to do repairs.
Land planning – currently working on Comprehensive Plan Update.
Residents have expressed concerns over CAFOs and large wind towers.
Trying to find businesses to locate in the Township is difficult due to a lack of four lane access to Green County.
When people apply for a building permit with Green County Zoning, they do not require a drive access permit verification from the Town, creating a difficult situation for the town to be in.
If you could reverse one town action, what would that be? The board had a chance to allow a new residence to be built in the Town, but a previous board denied the application and denied the Township of valuable tax base.
Any additional comments? Nannette Hilliard was nominated by Calvin Wasserstrass and Aleron Wasserstrass. Nannette Hilliard has not been to any Town Board or Land Planning meeting in the past.
