The Belleville baseball team played at Wisconsin Heights on May 6th and lost, 10-4.
After a scoreless first inning, both teams scored two runs in the second. Kevin Zimmerman got things going for the Wildcats with a single. A stolen base moved Zimmerman to 2nd. Jesse McNamar then scored on a ground out by Derek Baumgartner.
Belleville pulled ahead by one in the third, on an RBI single by Zimmerman to score Nicholas Richter making the score 3-2, however, Heights took the next three innings to score eight more runs.
The Wildcats tried to mount a comeback in the seventh with an RBI double by Zimmerman, but could only send one player across home plate.
Derek Baumgartner pitched for the Wildcats, striking out three.
Kevin Zimmerman went 3-4, with one run and two RBIs. Nicholas Richter was 1-4, with two runs scored.
In game one of the doubleheader against Marshall on May 14th, the Wildcats lost, 5-1.
The Wildcats were the first to score in the first inning when Brock Kelly was sent home on an RBI single by Cash Hoffman, and were ahead until the third inning when Marshall sent four players across home plate. Marshall scored their final run in the fifth to secure the win.
Scott Schwoegler pitched for Belleville, striking out nine.
Cash Hoffman had the only hit for the Wildcats.
Marshall also won game two, 14-6.
Marshall started the scoring in the first, sending three players across home plate and then scoring two more in the top of the second. Belleville answered in the second with four runs of their own, bringing the score within one when there were two wild pitches, an RBI double by Bryce Neild and an RBI single by Brock Kelly.
By inning three, the score was 8-6 in favor of Marshall, despite Coltyn Winkers’ two-run double.
Belleville’s hopes to win the game were dashed by Marshall’s six runs in the sixth and seventh.
Cody McMillan pitched for Belleville, striking out five, but allowed 11 runs in five innings and walked six.
Cash Hoffman was 2-4 and scored one run. Kevin Zimmerman, Bryce Neild and Jesse McNamar all went 1-3, with McNamar scoring two runs and Neild and Zimmerman scoring one run apiece. Neild added an RBI to his stats. Coltyn Winkers was 1-2 with one run scored and two RBIs.
The Wildcats headed to New Glarus on May 17th and will host Wisconsin Heights on May 19th and Poynette on May 20th.
