American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program

High School students in New Glarus are invited to compete in the Annual American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program. The invitation to enter the competition was extended by Post #141 and Green County Council Americanism Chair, David Henning.
The High School Oratorical scholarship Program has the full cooperation of Wisconsin school officials. The New Glarus contest will be conducted at the Veterans Memorial Hall on Sunday, January 10, 2016. Orientation for contestants will begin at 12:30 p.m.
The subject in the prepared oration portion of the contest must be about some phase of the Constitution of the United States, emphasizing the duties and obligation of a citizen to the United States. The prepared oration must be the original effort of each contestant and must be 8 - 10 minutes in length.
The winner of the New Glarus contest will compete in the Green County contest at a date to be determined. After the County level, the contest continues at the District level (Monroe on January 24), the State level (Ripon College on February 13) and the National level (Indianapolis, IN, in April).
Scholarship award for winners at the various levels are: Post - $50, County - $75, District - $300, State - at least $1,500 and National - $18,000. There are awards for runners-up at each level also.
