Gov. Evers, DWD Announce Youth Apprenticeship Offerings, 14 New Occupational Pathways for Students

Gov. Tony Evers has announced that Wisconsin high school juniors and seniors heading back to school this fall will have 14 new occupational pathways that local employers can support, thanks to ongoing modernization efforts by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD).

DSPS Secretary-designee Hereth Announces Opening of Round Two of Youth Fire Fighter Training Grants

Department of Safety and Professional Services Secretary-designee Dan Hereth announced the opening date for the second phase of the agency grant program that provides funding for youth fire fighter training programs. The grants of up to $25,000 are designed to help fire departments, technical college partners and school districts develop or expand training programs for high school juniors or seniors. The application window is open between September 9, 2022, and October 7, 2022.

Raiders Win First Two Games of the Season

The Raiders won their first game of the season against Dodgeville/Mineral Point on Tuesday, August 23, with a score of 8-0. It was a warm start to the season with it being 80 degrees at the start of the game. We came out ready to play - scoring a total of eight goals in the game. Racking up goals for the Raiders were Jack Leonard, Kiehmi Tazeh, and Tikeh Tazeh with one goal each, and Aiden Hatleberg with five goals. Getting assists were Tikeh Tazeh (2), Brady Mousseau, Nathan Hendrickson (2), Jack Douma, and Jack Leonard (2).

Pony Volleyball News

On August 27th, the Monticello Ponies volleyball team hosted a tournament. Participating schools included Albany, Barneveld, Belmont, Black Hawk, Juda, Marshall and Pecatonica.
The Ponies won matches against Marshall, 25-18, 25-19; Albany, 25-17, 25-22; Belmont, 25-14, 20-25, 17-15; Barneveld, 14-25, 25-14, 15-9; and Pecatonica, 25-13, 19-25, 15-9. No further information was provided by press time.
The Ponies will attend an invitational in Richland Center on September 3rd and a tournament in Brodhead on September 10th.

Wildcat Volleyball News

On August 25th, Belleville played at Evansville in a non-conference match losing in three, 8-25, 14-25, 17-25. No further information was provided by press time.
On August 27th, Belleville hosted an invitational. Teams attending included Oregon, Dodgeville, Madison West, Fennimore, Princeton/Green Lake, Poynette and LaFollette.
In Pool A play, Belleville lost to Madison West, 7-25, 14-25, Oregon, 24-26, 20-25, and Princeton/Green Lake, 1-25, 25-6, 5-15.

Ruschman's Oil Paintings to Display at New Glarus Public Library

Pamela Ruschman grew up on a dairy farm near Blanchardville, Wisconsin, and learned to paint from her high school art teacher. Her inspiration comes from her surroundings - the landscape, farms, and animals of southwest Wisconsin. After working twelve years in the agricultural advertising industry, she chose to pursue her passion of painting full-time. She does much of her work plein air painting along country roadsides, capturing the life and landscape before her on canvas. Pamela currently resides in New Glarus, Wisconsin, with her family.

Swiss Church Wisconsin Author Book Sale

Swiss Church El Salvador Mission is happy to announce the Wisconsin Author Book Sale is back, Sunday, September 4th! The sale is from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
This year we have fiction and non-fiction books for adults, and books for children as well. If the weather is nice, the authors will be in the lawn of Swiss Church along 4th Avenue - across from Art in the Park. If it is raining, they will be in the church fellowship hall - the basement of the church.
