Practice Firearm Safety During Spring Turkey Hunting Season

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds turkey hunters and outdoor enthusiasts to practice firearm safety during the 2022 spring turkey season, which runs through May 31, 2022.
Hunters and public land users may be sharing fields and forests during the season and need to be aware and alert of others in their area. Hunters should follow safety rules, and non-hunters enjoying public lands should consider wearing blaze orange.

Ponies Lose to Argyle

On April 19th, Monticello/Albany played at Argyle. Argyle took the early lead and M/A did attempt a comeback in the late innings, but fell short, losing 8-12.
Nick Roe was 1x2 with 1 run scored and 2 RBI, while Carson Gafner was 1x3 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI and Tyler Anderson was 1x4 with 2 runs scored. Aidan Harvey and Leon Parker both scored 1 run each while Drew Freitag scored 2 runs.

Sugar River Track Has Busy Week

“We had a double dual meet against Marshall and Wisconsin Heights earlier this week (April 19th) at Marshall. The weather was cooperative and allowed for some fantastic efforts and results,” said Coach Willy Johnson. “Competition between the Raiders and Marshall on the boys side was a close one and in the end we ended up tying. A point here or a point there by either team would have swayed the results. However, we didn’t lose anything in the dual conference race. We can still have our goal of Dual Conference champs in front of us.

Monticello Track Competes at River Ridge

It was another very successful evening for Monticello Track as they participated at the River Ridge Multi Team Meet in River Ridge on April 19th.
“Most of our athletes either PR’d in their event or at least got a Season Record,” said Kim Becker.
Some of the highlights included: Evan Guenther took first in 800m and 1600m, the boys 4x400 took 1st, Wade Noriega took 2nd in Discus, Hannah Clark took first 100m, 200m, 400m, and high jump, Natalie Wahl took 3rd in Discus.

Wisconsin Heights Wins Over New Glarus

The New Glarus Glarner Knights baseball team played at Wisconsin Heights on April 19th. The Knights tied it up in the 5th, only to have Heights score at the bottom of the 6th to win it by 1. The final score was Wisconsin Heights 8, New Glarus 7.
Easton Dreyfus went 2x4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, while Leyton Mihlbauer went 2x4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Brennan Butler, Cale Weeden, Dylan Fritz and Ethan Friedrich all scored 1 run each.

Monticello/New Glarus Softball Wins Over Black Hawk

The Monticello/New Glarus varsity softball team hosted Black Hawk in Monticello on April 19th. Black Hawk had an early lead, but M/NG put four runners over home plate in the 3rd and then two more in the 5th to sneak past the Warriors and win the game. The final score was M/NG 6, Black Hawk 5.
Katelyn Eyler was 3x3 at bat with 1 run and 2 RBI, while Riley Keehn went 2x3 with 1 RBI, Dalana Trumpy was 1x3 with 1 run scored and Karlee Wilkins was 1x3 with 1 run scored and 2 RBI. Melanie Fink and Kira Whisler scored the other 2 runs.

Lady Wildcats Lose to Waterloo, Cambridge and Lodi

The Belleville Wildcats varsity softball team hosted Waterloo on April 19th. The Lady Pirates held Belleville to just a single hit and defeated Belleville 15-0.
MacKenzie Stampfl was the Wildcats player that got the hit for the team.
Ava Benash and Kailey Prochaska pitched for Belleville, with Prochaska striking one Waterloo batter out.
On April 21, the Wildcats played at Cambridge. Cambridge shot out to a 7-0 lead and held the Wildcats to 2 runs. The final score was Cambridge 12, Belleville 2.
