Belleville Cub Scout and Boy Scout Food Drive Collects Over 950 Pounds of Food

We would like to thank the Belleville Cub Scouts who put out the fliers in the Belleville community requesting residents to place food donations outside their home for the Boy Scouts to pick up. We'd also like to thank the Belleville Boy Scout Troop #61 for picking up all the food, and thank the Belleville community who helped by donating the food for the annual March Food Drive. Over 950 pounds of food was collected.

Line of Decency Has Been Crossed

Dear Editor,
I thought for a while that our little corner of the planet could avoid the killing fields of 21st century American politics. Sadly, I was wrong.
Remember a letter to the editor in which one candidate is described as a family man and the other as having no wife and no children? Vague? Not really. I see no relevance of that reference to the issues the voters to need consider. So what its purpose?

School Board Race Has Not Been Immune From Overheated Rhetoric

Dear Editor,
Like elections across the country, our local school board race has not been immune from overheated rhetoric. In the 22 years my family and I have lived in the New Glarus community, this is the first time I have witnessed so many negative personal comments being made about candidates. This may in part be due to the negative impact of social media. Regardless of the reason(s), I hope this doesn’t forecast the future.
New Glarus is a warm, welcoming and vibrant community and we are far better than this.
Sincerely,
Bill Oemichen,

Knickelbine Supports Downing

Dear Editor,
These days it seems that political leaders who are dedicated to public service instead of partisan gamesmanship are in short supply. Those of us who live in southwestern Dane County have been fortunate to have one such leader, Pat Downing, represent us on the County Board.

Thoemke Finds Larson's Silence Telling

Dear Editor,
The nasty politics of personal destruction continue on behalf of Green County Board District 25 candidate Todd Larson. In a 02/24 letter to the editor, Larson supporter Judith Blank personally attacked Larson’s opponent, Shane Gashette. Blank resorted to doxing, Facebook stalking and “outsiderism,” rather than citing policy differences between the two candidates.

Bauer and Beckwith Support Larson

Dear Editor,
We write to you as decades-long citizens of the Town of York/New Glarus area, regarding the current race for County Board Supervisor District 25. We have had held off on weighing in, as we do not technically reside in the 25th District. But neither does the signatory of Mr. Gashette’s letter published in the March 17 issue of the Post Messenger Recorder, so we feel compelled to provide balance.
