New Glarus Girls Rally in Second Half to Beat Cambridge

The New Glarus Lady Knights varsity girls basketball team hosted Brodhead on January 17th. Down 13 at the half, the Lady Knights fought back in the second half only to suffer a loss. The final score was Brodhead 51, New Glarus 36.
Leading New Glarus with 13 points was Alex Atwell, who also had 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals and 2 blocks. Isabella Brenkman and Lindsey Schadewalt both scored 6 points with Brenkman pulling down 2 rebounds, she also had 2 assists and 2 steals, while Schadewalt had 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Glarner Knights Add Two More Wins

The New Glarus Glarner Knights boys varsity basketball team played at Waterloo on January 18th. Leading by 11 at the half, the Knights maintained their lead in the second half to win the game. The final score was New Glarus 73, Waterloo 54.
Carter Siegenthaler and A.C. Strok both scored 17 points each to lead the Knights, while Dain Walter put 16 points on the board.
On January 21st, the Knights played at Marshall. No halftime score was provided. The final score saw the Knights victorious against the Cardinals, 64-55.

Lady Ponies Suffer Two Tough Losses

The Monticello Lady Ponies girls varsity basketball team played at Orangeville on January 18th. Monticello lost; the final score was Orangeville 56, Monticello 27.
Coach Lori Brokopp said, “They have some height and shot very well from the outside. We couldn’t get shots to fall. I thought we rebounded very well for as much height as they had.”
With 14 points, Dalana Trumpy led Monticello in scoring, while Katelyn Eyler had 7 rebounds.
On January 20th, Monticello hosted Pecatonica and lost, 27-52.

Wildcats Score Impressive Win Over Cambridge

On January 13th, the Belleville boys varsity basketball team hosted Cambridge. Belleville was down by 1 at the half but mounted an impressive comeback in the second half to outscore Cambridge 34-18 and win the game. The final score was Belleville 70, Cambridge 55.
The Wildcats were led in scoring by brothers Carson and Trevor Syse, each scoring 18 points, while Andrew Ace scored 15 points.

This week saw the year’s first forfeit, couples tying for both this week’s high and low scores, a skunk and two teams taking a one match advantage over six other teams. It was the Starlight Express that hung on to defeat the Norsk Cowboys by 7 to remain undefeated. Whereas, the Kleeman’s Bar & Grill Hay Shakers found their match less stressful when they shook the Pranksters out of 42 points to join the Express in the undefeated category.
