Ponies Win Over Argyle

The Lady Ponies volleyball team played at Argyle on September 23rd. Monticello won in four, 25-21; 21-25; 25-17; 25-16.
Ellie Gustafson had 22 kills and 25 digs while Hannah Clark had 4 aces, Macey Grant had 13 digs and Kelsy Grant had 24 assists.
Monticello hosted Black Hawk on September 28th. They will host Albany on September 30th, play at Barneveld on October 5th and play at Juda on October 12th.

Wildcats Win Over Marshall

The Belleville volleyball team hosted Marshall on September 21st. The Lady Wildcats won in three sets, 25-12; 25-17; 25-23.
Callie Smith had 10 kills and 6 blocks. Ava Foley had 7 kills, while Ava Benash had 4 aces, Addy Edge had 11 assists, Kenna Edge had 8 assists and Mel Humke had 5 digs.
Belleville hosted Wisconsin Heights on September 28th. They will play at Lodi on October 2nd, at New Glarus on October 5th, and return home to host Deerfield on October 7th, which is also Senior Night.

Raiders Honored for Fifth Time

The Sugar River Raider Girls Soccer team has received the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the fifth time (and the fourth time in a row).
To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player’s GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
The Raiders have been honored in 2007, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Ace Named to UW-Stout Women's Soccer Team

Kallie Ace, a 2020 graduate of New Glarus High School, has been named to the University of Wisconsin-Stout 2021 women’s soccer team as a midfielder. The head coach is Ryan Raufus, who is in his 11th year.
Ace is studying Interior Design.

State Line League Memories: Monticello Ponies

<i>The following article is in response to a plea from Doc Wierwill for more stories about the old State Line League.</i>
The Pony basketball team of 69-70 didn’t have the size or physical maturity of the previous year’s team. Coach Squibb installed a version of the swing offense that was effective. Our biggest problem was on the defensive end of the court. We didn’t handle the bigger, more mature teams well - Ed Engen, Mark Anderson, Mike Curtis and Mark Wainwright were among the opposing players that caused problems for us.

Monroe-New Glarus Out Swims Lodi

The Monroe-New Glarus varsity swim team won the meet at Lodi on September 21st, 98-72.
Winning the 200Y Medley Relay was the team of Riley Hoesly, Mazie Paradis, Delaney Lynch and Danika Doll, with a time of 2:05.71. Placing 2nd was the team of Samantha Schiro, Karley Michels, Elsa Schaefer and Peyton Yaun with a time of 2:10.18.
In the 200Y Freestyle, Samantha Schiro finished 2nd with a time of 2:22.68, while Kristina Foley placed 4th with a time of 2:27.50, and Taylor Rufer finished 5th with a time of 2:29.10.

The Belleville Wildcats football team played at Parkview/Albany on September 24th, and won, 56-12.

Knights Stung by Hornets

The NGM Knights traveled to Richland Center on Friday night to face the Hornets. The Knights lost the game, 42-6.
Max Marty and Cale Weeden shared QB duty. Marty was 13 for 32, with 116 yards and Weeden was 3 for 10 with 30 yards.
With 39 yards, Nate Brandes led the Knights in rushing. Max Marty had 24 rushing yards and Justin Engen had 2.

Wildcats CC Team Runs Well at Midwest Invite

The Wildcats ran at the Midwest Invite in Janesville over the weekend. This is by far our biggest race, with hundreds of participants from all over the state and the country. The course is fast and flat, which gives the athletes an opportunity to push themselves. There were three races, a Varsity race, a Blue Qualifier race and a White race.
